Looking at the these two adverts in the classifieds, both from the same dealer:

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/950667.htm

and

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/950684.htm

Now, mileage is similar, both GTS models but the blue one has the F1 shift, age, three years apart in the favour of the blue one but this one is £3k cheaper?

Is anything not in red this much less desirable?

I'm all for buying the car in the colour you want & as I fancy one in TDF Blue this one looks great value, but when I come to eventually sell it will it end up like a millstone around my neck & take forever to sell? I accept that if I buy "cheap" I'll sell "cheap" but if I takes years to sell I may have to reconsider & bite the bullet by buying the traditional Rosso / Crema.

Be grateful for any thoughts?

TDF is a graet colour but red will always be worth more TDF sells Ok.
F1 change in F355 is not the best not sure if F1 on F355 makes the car cheaper or not to be honesty personaly would not have F1 on a F355.

I used to own a manual GTS in Giallo Modena (yellow) and sold it for a premium at the time but would like to get another as a keeper at some point.

Buy the colour you want if that is TDF go for itbiggrin

KHPC sell on SOR don't they?

Prices might reflect owner's appetite to sell?

The fact people say they must be red is why I got a yellow one.

I personally think TDF Blue is the best colour for the 355, especially with Crema hide.

I also like the silver & black ones in the classifieds;

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/319425.htm (black)

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/945160.htm (silver)

The silver one especially I think looks great but from what I understand would be a bugger come resale time.

Given that you can have a professional respray to red for £3k, the newer car looks a bargain.

Red is such a horrible colour for a car even for the Ferrari. I really don't understand why people keep on talking about resale red. A black Ferrari makes a Ferrari look so much better than red.

Just look at how many other marks are sold in red. How many red Gallardos, Murcies, Astons, BMWs, Porsches etc are there? The answer is very few because the red colour is generally horrible fora car. For a F355 the TDF is better than red but it is an old fashioned looking colour just like British racing green. I would get black or yellow. The problem is though that there are such few F355s in these colours.

Anyone notice how the 430 scuds are being purchased in any colour other than red. I guess people are starting to realise.

I personally think red ferraris are the worst to buy.

TDF looks great and quite a few folks buy F's in any colour but red, though red is obviously still the default choice for most.

I also wouldn't buy a 355 (or 360) with F1 system. Don't think they really got it right until 430. Go for a manual.

I think that its probably a personal choice we have 3 red soft tops and love each and every one of them wouldnt have had them in any other colour ( 355,mx5 sport and Landrover 90)

Thanks for the comments.

My current thoughts are a manual GTB or GTS in either TDF blue or black. Don't really fancy the full convertible as I'd feel too self conscious plus I'll still have the Elise for wind in the hair motoring smile

The silver one at Walker's did catch my eye but as mentioned I think it would be grief to move on after a few years when I fancy a change. Equally I've seen a metallic grey one that looked nice but the same concern about resale made me cautious.

No desperate rush to jump in so please bear with me if I ask more stupid questions whilst searching.

You never seen Jimiraqui's music video for Cosmic Girl? Theres a black one being chased by a purple Diable and a red F40.

I personally preferred the yellow for the Spider, so thats what I got.

The F355 looks so good in any colour, so buy what you want. I dont think the resale is affected that much.

Then you are very much in a minority (unless looking at slightly older front engined V12s like the 456/550/575).

To the OP - buy what you want but understand the difference between different colours by researching. A non-red car will cost you less in the first place so you can sell it for less if you ever want to sell.

Also IMO, TdF is the 2nd best colour for one (after red). Though I imagine many might opt for yellow. After blue, I'd go black, gun metal or silver. But red really does bring the shape of the car out perfectly.

Crema looks great in the flesh (Ferrari did a good job on the 355 insides). Tan looks too much like caramac (or a post curry trouser accident) for my liking.

Buy a manual car too (IMO) as the F1 shift was new on the 355. Plus there are more bits to break.

And buy one soon - they are brilliant cars and there'll be fewer and fewer truly good ones on the market as time goes on.
