'Hedgehog' related? (E39)
Discussion
Wondered if the following is a sign my 'hedgehog' is on the blink or not.
When the climate control is in auto mode (which it is all the time) I can adjust the temp fine for both sides. The only thing that doesn't seem to respond is the fan speed as I have to manually adjust it up or down as per a 'normal' a/c system. I would have thought the fan speed would alter on it's own dependant on conditions in & outside of the car.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Steve

Not sure if this is a hedgehog thing. Sounds stupid, but are you **sure** it is on Auto?
Anyway, the hedgehog is a cheap item in the grand scheme of things, and take 10 minutes to fit so might be worth doing anyway - if it doesn't work, swap them back and flog the new one on eBay.
How close to Bristol are you? Happy to plug you in to diagnostics and see what it thinks is wrong.

usual signs are it having a mind of its own. I.e. it will be working fine and then you will hear the fan speeding up or slowing down - even though the bar graph shows a constant speed. I also had occasional flat batteries in the morning - presumably it would start up in the middle of the night.
They are £53 + vat, dead easy to change:
