Bloody hell, I have just had a major brown trousers incident in the V8S.

I was coming out of the roundabout at Chichley hill near MK heading for Sherington giving it the gas into the sweeping left hander when all hell breaks loose. Throtal cable snaps on entrance to corner at around full power, but instead of revs falling to idle the thing stick full open. This results in huge power slide, which i try to steer into. Now I'm sliding back the other way and my brain has not got a ing clue what is going on. Right foot goes for the breaks, with obvious consequences of even larger tailout / doughnut style slide. Left foot goes for clutch, I hit kerb and revs dye. But car is now on mud and smashes into bank of earth. Fortunatly no one was coming the other way, or I would have wiped them out. Before anyone says why did you not just go for the clutch, I don't know. I was fighting so hard with the wheel it was not the first thing that came to mind. The cable must have got jammed, or something. Has this happend to anyone else...........

Well apart from the snapped cable I now have a cracked front bumper and some damage to the underside of the car. I had to drive the thing home using my hand, shaking like a bstrd. At least there was no a tree, or worse a cyclist.

Now I have to find someone to fix the damage and a new cable.

Does anyone know where I can get a cable from so I can get mobile, and how much. Luckly my mate owns a body shop, so I should be able to fix the body. Dunno about anything else though.

I need a fag,

Man!! Good to hear you're fine and that there's not too much damage to the car. That's two cable incedents recently!! (wedgie in a Chim).

Absolutely terrifying. Thank goodness you're OK!

I had the carpet in my Pug 406 Coupe ride up over the top of the accelerator and hold it full open once. On a roundabout! Had to declutch and just let it razz as I coasted to a halt. When I think about your experience I was so lucky.

But don't dwell on it, eh? Chances are it'll never happen again...

Thanks guys, I'll try Mr Batty.

The cable on my Meastro jammed once while on full power, without any of the dramatic stuff I posted before. In fact I probably drove for a few miles without even noticing

Now I think about it I'm glad that I want into a bank and not a ditch

Groan, just got the bus into work as my Golf is also off the road needing HT-leads.

The damage is mostly around the bracket that supports the hinge on the front section of the car. The glassfiber has split back to front where the force of the bank of earth forced it up from below. There is also another crack just to the left of the number plate and the grill is bent a bit. One of the spot lights is cracked a bit, but other than that I think I was pretty lucky.

I have never worked with glassfiber, is it easy to repair. Any tips would be helpful.

Off to phone around about a new cable,

Z.

Just ordered my cable from David Batty........£65 inc VAT I hope it does not go again for a while, this is turning out to be a costly little experience.

Glad to hear your OK! GRP is, in theory, simple to work with, BUT.... I have found that in practice getting a nice finish can be a bit of a pain. IMHO best to leave it to people that know what they are doing.

That sounds absolutely terrifying. Never good when the car decides it has other ideas as to how it should be driven !

Glad you and the car are ok. (ish in the case of the car of course).

Glad your ok Z, it does you make shake a bit, well perhaps alot, bet you had a few stiff whiskey when you got home. I had a emergency stop problem on the same round about after picking the S up from a garge in Sherington, my S didn't want to stop either. Have you ever tried Classic Cars in Sherington, they not bad at all with body work.

I have never tried them, but my next door neighbour owns MK panel craft, so I usually take bodywork to him (they do all sorts of exotics inc Aston Martins etc). I think I rememeber you using Classic Cars, you had you prop balenced there. Perhaps we will bump into each other one day (not literally).

wow what a memory you have, that was me, prop man. I'm a MK person, you?. You recommend MK panles then? If you need any simple metal work doing just ask as I run an engineering company that makes parts for cars(vauxhalls), high volume press work etc.

Telling me.. once was driving a Land Cruiser Amazon Auto which the accelerator pedal got stuck under the stiched in heal pad on the carpet.... 3 ton monster accelerating at full chat and no clutch pedal!

Realised what the problem was so Im there trying to hold the car back on the foot brake whilst I rumage under the dash trying to release the pedal! was a great relief when it came free I can tell you!

Scary...Im sure your moment was much worse though, hope everything gets sorted soo and your not too shook up
