I want to fit a battery cut-off switch to my '97 500. As this will involve replacing the negative cable with one with different terminals, could anyone tell me where the cable is connected to earth?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't know where you want to put the isolator switch,But if you put it somewhere around the foot well You don't have to change the lead.Cut off the end that connects to the battery, Put switch in & make the new lead to go from switch to battery which ever side you want to isolate,The switch is the same as used in boats if that helps. Terminal ends or sold in HALFORD, Could be done in around an hour,,
Hope this helps GOLDIE

Installed mine in the very top of the passenger foot panel in front of the battery. This meant that the original -ve cable was long enough and I only had to make up a new one from the isolation switch back to the -ve on the battery.

Mine's in the glove box. No idea how - previous owner did it. Neat job though. wink

The easiest and IMHO neatest way to do this is to remove the battery negative terminal clamp, cut it off the cable and solder a suitable (8mm?) ring terminal on to the cable. Bolt this to the cut off switch. Then make up a suitable length of cable to run from the other cut off switch terminal (another 8mm ring terminal then) to the battery using a new battery terminal clamp.

All parts available from vehicle wiring products.

Glove box install is neat as the switch is hiddden, but accessible and unlikely to be accidentally knocked. I fixed mine to the back wall of the glove box unit.

Thanks for all the advice everyone - sounds like soldering and somewhere in the glove box is the way to go.
