I have recently purchased and taken delivery of my new MK Indy R Gixer 1000R and love it to peices but get as i'm getting used to it now and the problem seems to be the fact that it tops out around 114mph which isn't ideal for many of the track days that I plan on doing.

It goes through the box like a bat out of hell in the first 4 so would a loer ratio diff tame that too much?

Its running a 3.62 sierra diff at the mo but heard that the 3.38 is a good happy medium as not to lose all acceleration but give a more reasonable top end, Not sure if this topic has come up before but would like to hear some advice anyway.

Cheers

I have a 3.38 LSD in my R1 and it is perfect. Will still hit 60 in about 4 secs flat and does about 137mph on the GPS (apparently) with 14" wheels. Not sure what your gearing is like, but it will make your car much nicer to drive and should give you 130+ top speed (although your aerodynamics might blunt that a bit)

Is that a sierra diff Lee?

Sounds like the sort of thing i'm after!

I love donnington and know that i would be getting smashed on the straights with the current diff ratio's.

Yes 3.38:1 is the one to go for. My Fury R1 has great acceleration and will top 130mph just. I'm on 13" rims though.

The problem is that 3.38:1 Sierra diffs are extremely rare now.

why is the seirra used so much for parts when seirras must be quite rare now?

Would it be possible to use a bmw lsd?

Good point Teabagger, anyone done this on an indy r?

Does it have to be LSD?

I just checked fleabay and there seems to be a few on there for around £150ish (3.38)

Its what I run in my blade and that does 130's. Im running 195/50 15's

Ive only taken it to 126 in 5th so I dont know exact top speed though to be fair

The LSD in mine is a hybrid made from a 3.38 and a 4x4 LSD internals. Not sure if Cosworth or XR4x4 though. But it works a treat. Maybe a quaife ATB would be better though, not so aggressive. I know Fisher Sprtscars can use Freelander diffs with quaife internals. Gives a 3.1 or 3.2 or something, so maybe good for a really low geared bike engine. But would proboby give mine a 150mph top speed so a bit pointless for me. Apparently even my "used" diff cost the builder about £600 to get done, a Freelander diff with quaife LSD will be about £1,000.
