Hi

Has any one got a first motion shaft out of a T5 gearbox I can borrow, hire, or buy, so I can change my clutch/flywheel/ringear.

I just used a peice of 1/2 inch dowel and then wrapped gaffer tape till it was a good fit into each of the holes. Worked a treat, gearbox went in first time.

Beware with a twin plate clutch trying that though. If you don't line the splines up your into a world of pain with a gearbox on your chest! laugh

I have a shaft but it's currently ass deep in a knackered box. chortle!

You could try Teamholdenracing, he had loads of T5's and may have a shaft he might lend out for a fee. I'll also see how much of a job it is to get the one out of my knackered gearbox.

Just measured The spline bit is 1" diameter with 23 splines. It's from a T5 box that was fitted to a modified 2.8i capri. It snapped off one day, with a leisurely change from 2nd to 3rd gear.

OK the day before I'd been at Santa Pod...

LOL - I have a few bits from the Capri in the black museum. Input shaft snapped on one gearbox, stripped cogs off the second gearbox, spat the gearing from the diff through the diff cover leaving a large hole and no drive...

That was on a 2.8i capri with a 3.1 long stroke engine and only 196bhp, 248 ft/lbs torque. Possibly adding to the T5's fragile reputation. It was all Ok after I had a gearbox with quaiffe bits in.
But then I believe there is different flavours of T5.

Side note: Capri's 40th birthday year this year.

I thought the 2.8 capris used a T9 'box??

Either way, I think it would be the same sized input shaft which means that any old type 9 sierra box will do (£10 from a scrappy).

My local motor museum has a 1983 mk3 1600 capri with 220,000 miles on it. One owner from new.
