Remap or New ECU?

I still get miffed that everytime I make any mods to my car and need a remap it's £450 a pop. I am now thinking that an ECU that my local specialists (who are very experienced at mapping) will be the way to go.

I can understand being charged if a major component is being changed, but surely even if you change ECU, you're still going to need a remap if you change anything thereafter in much the same vein?
If only relatively small things are changed, we don't charge a for full remap, if something has been altered which will affect the whole map, obviously that means a complete re-work of the whole map, but again, whichever ECU you're on, changing stuff means remapping to a varying extent?

As Mike says in theory you should map every time you make a change, regardless of the ECU.
I think the real issue is you see so many other cars just bolt things on and seem to get away with it. The truth of the matter is generally they don't.
Case in point. Ferrari 360's that have Tubi exhausts put on. They sound great and in the upper rev ranges work well. But, put one on a dyno and look at all the low down torque that's now missing and the top end power isn't actually any better. People think it is because the differential between low and high revs is much bigger. The truth is that the top end is the same but the low end is worse.
You can map around this, but most people don't think it's wrong. We're just better educated than that

oil to water cooler
Turbohoses header tank
(Engine internals to M400 spec)
Now putting up the boost to 1 bar and have next series of mods in hand which are bigger injectors and a completely new inlet manifold design (being proved by another member and then we will manufacture in carbon)

It will be the VNT's that will trigger the remap in this case.
Yes I do have variable nozzle turbo's. They are the first customer set from TT after they spent a long time setting them up on a Cosworth V6. The delivery is very smooth and very full. Makes it feel less rurbocharged and more NA.

...that is also missing. I have never seen a rarri do the numbers (only seen 348s/355s/360s/360CS's on there though)
I hear the newer cars are alot better, I really hope that is the case.
