Bar/ Restaurant near Waterloo Station
Discussion
We are meeting up with friends over from Australia at 8pm tonight at Waterloo Station, and need some good suggestions for somewhere to drink locally please (and possibly eat).
They are moving here in 2 months so I don't want to end up at a grotty old pub with expensive booze. At the moment the Fire Station is at the top of the list, mainly because we know where it is.
Something busy, and a bit trendy (if people still use that word
) would be good.
Cheers!

Fraser, the only one I can think of is 'Zander' which is on Buckingham Gate. I'll try and find a link.
Doesn't really tell you much, but again the scenery is nice

Not exactly 'local' for Waterloo though!Fire Station isn't a bad call, There is a largish decentish bar down near the London Eye (All Bar Slug type IIRC) - on the left as you face it/the river.
ks, I was thinking of Victoria, don't think I have ever ventured south of the river!!http://www.balticrestaurant.co.uk/html/#home
Baltic is nice been a couple of times no view though about a ten minute walk if you are slow it is at the top of the cut near southwark tube I think, what exactly do you want as river locations near waterloo are limited to non existent ?

Thanks Andrew.
Right, Going to stick with the fire engine first for a drink, then head down The Cut towards Baltic. Looks like there are quite a few restaurants/ pubs/ bars along the road so it could be a good night south of the river I think!
Cheers all
Sorry I'm late, but that's exactly what I would have suggested. Have fun!Right, Going to stick with the fire engine first for a drink, then head down The Cut towards Baltic. Reporting back... with a sore head

Firestation first for only one drink as it was completely packed.
The Cut Bar (in front of the Young Vic theatre). Reminded me a bit of a posh student union without the students
. Great place, good drinks, reasonable prices, busy with theatregoers but we still had a seat. Stayed for 2 hours and had bar food which was nice and very well presented. Will definitely go here again.
Baltic. Very cool
Looked like a tiny restaurant from the outside, but inside was a large bar, with a restaurant separated at the back of the building. White leather/ paint everywhere and more upmarket london nightclub, than beer drinking bar. Top service, felt 'exclusive', and good cocktails.
Back to the Firestation, for one more at 11. Not as busy, but still only standing room. Atmosphere was lacking a bit, and I think it could have done with some music.
Cheers to all for the suggestions! Great night
