Hi all
Just a quick question: Can somebody please tell
me what makes the fuel pump only prime for 3 or 4 secs
Is it fuel pressure or electrical.
As mine seems to pump all the time when ign on.
Any help woukd be gratefully accepted.
Thanks

you only hear it when ign is turned on until the petrol pressure is right..Some pump make a lot of noise but seam to be quieter the more petrol in tank, Is it noisy all of the time or worse when nearly empty..Sometime this means pumps on its way out.. cheers GOLDIE

The pump primes for a preset time ,set by the ECU.
Once this time is complete, it should stop until the engine is cranking/running , at which time it should run continously.

If it is running continously from ignition on, check the fuel pump relay in the ECU loom as it may be faulty.
There is also another fuel pump relay in the fuse box too, just to add confusion!
