So in late Jan I had BG come an repair my boiler under one of their Flexi plans, since then the boiler has been dripping water occasionally from the pressure relief pipe.

I had noticed after the engineer had been the pressure was quite a lot higher than I keep it normally, but I thought the guy probably knew what he was doing.

Cut to yesterday drip is now much more frequent (a lot more) and it was then that i noticed the fill loop had been left open (according to the manual for the boiler this shouldnt be done), obviously by the BG guy.

So my question to plumbers and those in the know, what are the consequences of doing that ?, any likely damage ?, I have lowered the pressure, but it still is dripping, I am going to call BG tomorrow but wanted some advice upfront from an expert.

if the release valve has opened you almost certainly need a new one, they never close properly. Might also be worth checking the expansion tank is inflated still.

Obvioulsy the fill loop constantly open would cause the valve to open, when ours did this it took years to reclose(stick!) properly! As they hardly ever open you will probably need a new one. Pressure usually is between 1 & 1.5 bar i think??

The relief valve opening and closing is not a problem unless you get a bit of st on the seat, BUT if it's been running then it may have worn a groove into the seat and will need replacing. Open it and blast water through it to clean it. See how it goes. If it holds pressure then it's OK.

Thanks chaps, does seem to be slowing down drip wise now, only a couple of drops yesterday.
