Passenger Footwell Trim

I recently acquired a sweet 400SX which has just one niggle (apart from the tiny pedals!)

The weight of the engine management unit which traditionally is unattached in the area just above the passengers feet is forcing the trim to drop down. I was told this was a common problem - is there a common solution (e.g. drill to attach unit or bolt attach the trim ???) ?

I used a number of cable ties connected together to attach the ecu to a metal strut under the dashboard above the fuse/relay panel.

If you pull the trim down the ecu no longer falls down as well!

Thanx - the simplest solutions are often the best!

Anyone else done anything more permanent ?

My ECU is in the space between the back of the NS front wing and the side of the footwell - assessed via a slit in the footwell 'carpeting' that's held together with 'Velcro'. The relay box is under the dashboard.

How do people secure the top trim of the footwell (the bit with the elasticated pocket) to the dash? Does that sufficiently explain what I'm asking ... humm, I don't know! ?

On my 350SE I ended up using a small self tapping screw, which worked for a year at least....

Neil, is your 400SX the one that was for sale at RT racing a while back, green with a very low mileage? Would love to see it. Are you likely to be going to the Surrey TVR Club meetings?

Gerald - yes it is - 6000 miles and pristine - great fun 1980's sportscar with attitude - I'll see if I can get to Surrey TVR sometime.

I fitted a small metal arm to one of the ecu mounting bolts. When I push the carpet trim up I swivel the arm around to latch over the inside of the dash.

1" self tapping screw seems to do the trick - not had a problem from it. Well done on getting the SX - that is a fantastic BIG BAD WEDGE

I had the same problem but is made worse with the addition of traction control computer and a new fuse box addition for the DTA ECU. Solved it by using two gold (brass) up and over catches and a couple of split pins to lock them in place.

L shaped bracketon the offending trim flap, and a wing nut through the glove box... job done
