The older gamer
Discussion
Am i the only one who's over 40[43 to be exact] playing on xbox live?
yes i know i heard it all before Grandad, you're far too old to be playing an xbox, about time you grew up [why?]etc etc etc
I might be getting on a bit but i can sometimes hold my own or not when you blow up all of you're team with a martydom grenade[oops remember that one Phil?lol]and for the first time i beat my 14 year on a 1 on 1 battle on WAW
To be honest most of you whippersnappers are far to fast for me on normal games maybe that's why i only usually play hardcore stuff so i ain't got to fire too much,so if there are a few older gamers make yourselfs known[with gamertag] or add me thegoose41 maybe we cud have an OAP battle lol
Once i get me console back from microsoft that is oh humbug

34 and just accepting the realisation that I am probably playing online against people who are half my age.
Having said that, with age comes experience, and where going in guns blazing and fast reactions once applied, this has now been replaced by alternative strategy and tactics.
I was the king of Planetoid in the 80's, but the simple fact is that time has moved on. I was playing Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP2 when I was 17, on my Megadrive; on my own. Why should the whipper snappers have all the fun with HD resolutions and online communities? Exactly.
There are more of us 30+ giffers online than you would think.

You're not the only one, I'm the 'wrong' side of 40 too, damn whippersnappers, in my day we had to play pong on a ZX81 with a 32K expansion block, unless you was posh and had a Commodore 64
omg Pong bloody hell that brings back memories lol
I can remeber playing plink plonk tennis on some bbc cheapo console now that was basic!!
What really got me was watching my son playing headquaters on Cod4 his fingers were a blur so was the screen just how do they see what the hells going on and in team death match he wiped out the whole of the other team with 1 grenade HOW HELL DID HE DO THAT???
Playing 1 on 1 with hims a right laugh i even managed to beat him twice the other night doing what i do best camping on waw although it didn't last long afer getting picked off from the other side of the map on castle.
Maybe we oldies should take on the whippersnappers for a langh i'm sure MK4 Redbull would be up for that.....i'll just have to wait for my Xbox to come back from the Xbox hospital

The day's not the same without a Xbox fix

According to the mrs i'm sad old man who's trying to be a young un..! SO lol

I'm approaching 30 and know stacks of 40+ gamers. We regularly meet on Team Fortress 2 which is great fun!

I'll be hitting that particular milestone later this year. I think anyone my age was bought up on the new generation consoles and computers (Atari, ZX Spectrum/81, Amiga) and I don't think it's something you grow out of if you were, indeed, into 'it' in the first place.
I must admit I only ever play driving games on Live and and keep the like of COD, Oblivion etc for solo gaming.

I'm 27 and am not bored of computer games yet. Southendpier & Willjc are old fogies as well.
I had an Amiga 500, my bro & I saved up £30 to buy another half meg to make it a whopping 1 meg.
Many moons have past since then
God yes I remember those days - the Amiga 500 with the memory expansion, plus the hard disk you could attach to the expansion slot.I had an Amiga 500, my bro & I saved up £30 to buy another half meg to make it a whopping 1 meg.
Many moons have past since then

First game I had for it was Defender of the Crown by Cinemaware Cinemaware. Other greats included Sentinel and Starglider... Ah the good old days...

You wait till you get a woman or a bloke[you have to be careful how you word things these day you should'nt jump to conculsions just cause the word GAYER keeps springing up lol]
It'll change then mate even more so when the kids come along and want to play, then you have to fight for game time.
The other aspect of gaming is technogly getting too complicated i never ever recall having any problems with my Atari 2600, Mega drive or snes and from what i've been told the its not only the Xbox but the Ps3 has its problems too.
