The 360 is dead.
It had a good innings at 18 months it was older than most but recently it has started crashing alot and not recognising the wireless adaptor.
Anyway tonight whatever sends the signal is knackered as the screen has gone all mental and then blank, checked and not a cable/wiring issue.
What can I do here? Warranty wise is it replaceble?(I have the box but don't think a receit, although it may be listed on my Blockbuster card/account). There is no RROD either and the game appears to still be running?
Really annoyed by this though, the reliability is crap and unacceptable. If I have to pay money or mess about for months I'll just.........
........buy a PS3 instead.

The reliability of the 360 is evidently an issue for a lot of people. I don't own the console myself, but I would be pretty hacked off if I had spent a fair bit of money on a 360, only for it to go wrong 18 months later.
Not going to get into a debate about PS3 v 360, but the simple fact is that I have owned every PS (after moving over from my Megadrive back in the mid 90's). My PS2 was purchased in 2001 and when I traded it in for my PS3 last year it had given me 7 years reliable and regular service without a single thing going wrong.
There are some great games on the 360, but the same applies for the PS3. I personally would not want to give any more of my money to Microsoft knowing full well that they know full well that their console has problems, but that they don't seem bothered to want to do anything about it. I know where my hard earned would be spent, particularly given the excellent titles that have recently been (and are soon to released on the PS3 platform).

I'm on my third xbox because of this! RROD is such a common error that Microsoft extended the warranty for this fault to 3 years! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems - check out the warranty section)
Just give xbox a call, they send you a box, and you send it back to them, usually they simply send you a new xbox rather than fix it. I had mine back in a week.

Mine gave up the ghost whislt playing with fellow pher's wednesday night i rang UPS after talking to microsoft they picked it up within 3 hrs of the call now its off to Germany to be repaired......the day's so long without an Xbox fixJust give xbox a call, they send you a box, and you send it back to them, usually they simply send you a new xbox rather than fix it. I just hacked off with the low quality of the thing, I have never owned such a crappy piece of electronics. PS2 lasted 5 years of hard gaming and (I presume still works) same for DC, N64, Saturn, SNES and PS1.
I'm off to france for 2 weeks so annoyingly will have to wait, if the stupid thing had died 3 days ago I could have got it done while I was away.

I have read through the Wikipedia article and my X-Box is suffering from 'Video Failure' the symptons matched the description (blank or distorted picture but functioning sound), not RROD Hardware failure.
This means it is not covered by the extended warranty and I presume as it was bought in August '07 it is out of normal warranty as well.
I'll see how it goes but if the problem persists while it is still just about working I may trade it and the Wii in for a PS3.

I think my disc drive is on the way out, and could RROD the thing to get it repaired. If I did that Xbox would kindly repair the RROD but bill me £60 for the priviledge of looking at the disc drive.
Thats why I'm contemplating swapping mine out for a Resident Evil 5 limited edition console.

It's currently sitting at UPS Frankfurt awaiting dispatch to the repair centre. Not bad considering it was picked up at 4pm yesterday afternoon!

In case you don't know; take your existing one out, check the model type. Buy a new one (or 2nd hand working one), take the cover off and remove the circuit board from existing and swap into the new one. Sorted.
Mine failed a couple of weeks ago. Fixed it for £15
