No Excuses Jenson - You now have the car

I can remember Jenson hinting that Hamilton was winning due to his car last year(you could argue that why was Heiki nowhere last season in the same car.
This year - The Brawn car is on par with the fastest cars out there and the big guns of Ferrari,Mclaren and BMW are at least 1 second away and struggling.
Is Jenson now going to show that he is a good racer and can win if given the tools? He and the other drivers in the top 6 have no excuses now.
Let us see what you can do Jenson.

Brawn are 1 second a lap up in testing
Bear in mind we haven't even had a race or qualifying session yet.
I don't like to harp on about this on these forums but does anyone remember 2006 when they were awesome in testing, JB put it on pole in Oz and everyone thought they were a shoo-in for the title? Good year that was wasn't it?
I still think a points finish is more realistic with a podium being fantastic.
The Brawn looks quick and the OP is perfectly correct that if it is up there then Jenson needs to deliver. But lets not get our skirts flying up just yet...

But who is he up against? Have you seen the Ferrari practice times? They are also struggling.Bear in mind we haven't even had a race or qualifying session yet.

Rev-erend, I know it's not you who started the "pikey dad" thing so it's not a personal dig, but I actually think that comment is out of order. In the motorsport threads I like to think we are interested in the racers and the racing - not the "OK Magazine" style commentary about who's wearing what and who's sitting with who in the pit lane.PIKEY FATHER
John Button worked incredibly hard to help Jenson get into F1 for years, often putting his personal life/finances in the shade because of it. Regardless of whether he's well dressed, well spoken etc - he's a passionate dad and long may it continue.

It's still fair to say that it's just a practice session, everyone is trying different set ups and it doesn't mean a great deal. Practice sessions have always thrown up some odd results; maybe not as odd as this but I still wouldn't look too deeply into it. Ferrari have a decent pace, it doesn't appear that McLaren have. I'm more than happy to eat my words come tomorrow morning however

I recall some years ago a university friend of mine (who had worked at TWR on Le Mans cars before university and, as it turns out, is now Chief Designer at Williams...) telling me that he believed there were only 2 or 3 people who actually, instinctively "got" how F1 cars work. Gordon Murray was one of them, Newey was another. I don't now remember who the third was. Nothing I've seen in the years since has changed my view on this.skwdenyer said:
