Hi 8 to PC

Hope this isn't a daft question, but what's the neatest way to get footage from 8mm Hi 8 tapes to my PC? Camcorder has analogue outputs only, so far as I can tell.

And what should I use for editing when i get it there?

Movie Maker is quite good, but a little basic.

I have a stand-alone gadget that converts an analogue signal to MP4. There are USB2 versions around for about 30-40 pounds.
