sticking speedo

Anyone had this? I work away for 5 weeks at a time and then on getting the Chim out when I get back the speedo stays on 0 until about 60 when it suddenly comes up (I know there'll be several on here who probably think it's unnecessary anyway...but in these days of poxy cameras...). Over the following few days this 'trigger point' gradually comes down until it's working normally. This sticking I can put up with but in the middle of last leave it did it again - not normal. So I wonder now, is it on the point of failure or just in need of a bit of TLC. Any Instrument Techs on here? Very grateful for all ideas.

I had a sorta similar problem recently. I had to go over 20-30 mph before the speedo would register and then when driving over bumps (hmm!!) it would go to zero and next bump would come back up. I took the dash off, wiggled the wires, put the dash back on and all had been ok since. It even registers below 20mph now (the number of traffic jams I've been in and my speedo tells me I've gone nowhere after 40-50 mins!! cos its all below 20mph!!)
