Business Analyst Jobs.....
Discussion
Long story short: I've recently moved down to London and am looking for a job... I've been a Business Analyst for almost 5 years in both the Utilities and Finance industries and wondered if anyone knew of any BA jobs going?
Long shot I know and probably not the best place to ask but really struggling to find any work and getting pretty desperate, it seems to be all 'who you know' in london and I dont really know anyone.
Anyone else having IT employment issues? I surely cant be the only one....
Also any tips on Job sites (IT based) would be much appreciated, Ive been using the usual:
CWJobs
IT Jobs board
Reed
Londonjobs
Cheers
Alex

Me. Nearly 20 years experience doing a lot of high-profile work for major blue-chips, systems analysis, Oracle and *nix a speciality. Professionally reworked CV.Last contract finished 30th November 2008. Job applications since: about 400. Interviews: ZERO.
I can't even secure stuff at 9 quid an hour. I've given up totally now and am getting my Jobseekers allowance, got a tooth crowned on the NHS last week for free. Winky Mcf

Personally I do hope never to work in IT again: it's a very fickle environment where if your skillset is with v10.73 you won't get an interview for a role using v10.74.

Cheers for that, I got good grades but from Sheffield Hallam so not really a 'Top-Tier' uni unfortunately....

Can I ask why the fact that you went to Sheffield Polytechnic is relevant with 5 years Experience ? I went to Coventry Polytechnic 20 years ago and NOBODY cares.

knut got me into this mess (IT skills shortage, visas for Indians: my arse!) so he can pay me to sit on my arse and do the gardening for the next couple of years, which I can afford to do. w

Thats a similar position I'm in (minus about 15 years exp) and your absolutely right about the versions etc, I think because there are so many people looking for jobs employers can be really really picky. But at the same time how can they expect people to be 100% up to date with software if they've been out of work? And does it really even matter anywhere, I dont see how...Last contract finished 30th November 2008. Job applications since: about 400. Interviews: ZERO.

Again good point, experience should be a lot more relevant but with most of the online apps Ive done they've always asked for it, whether they take it into consideration I'm not sure but with the market how it is maybe they do.I went to Coventry Polytechnic 20 years ago and NOBODY cares.
Getting really fed up with it all now, its literally been months of searching, had one interview which I havent heard back from and I'm fast running out of cash.... Even considering moving back in with my old man, which is the last resort and a real big step backwards for me. Hey ho, the search goes on I spose..... I even tried to get a bar job the other day to fill my time and wallet but didnt have enough experience.

Nope. Been out since mid-November. Applied for loads, had a few interviews and 'secured' a role at the end of Feb.........which I'm still waiting to start.
IT Mangager with 17+ years experience - speak four languages - Masters in Science (Information Technology)...
Currently work on a contract as Data Analyst.
I haven't stopped job searching for over a year now and had 5 or so interviews... Two of those jobs didn't even exist, but they were "looking at the future"... Thanks though for wasting my time - grrrr...
similar story here... 8 years experience as a code monkey with several programming languages and worked with a massive financial company for all 8 years, ended up designing and building trding platforms in C# and JAVA.
Im now resorting to a 6 month with burberry on half my normal wage just to keep the brain occupied.
had loads of interest and then nothing... several they really want to talk to you and then f

Extremely annoying.... if you dont have a job or feedback (any is better than nont) then stop f

if you can handle the travel, sheffield and leeds are screaming out for BA's. Permie positions, paying approx £30k.
Do a search for them on jobserve.co.uk (in sheffield, leeds.)
Personally, I'm sick of seeing them advertised !!
I'm looking for s/w and n/w management, not bleeding BA ! grr!

Completely agree Dupont, it just doesnt add up. I look at the job boards daily and apply for at least 10 a day minimum. The problem is when I chase up the agencies the job either doesn't even exist or they've received literally 100's of applications....... I dont understand???

As an example; I chased up a role I applied for today and they said they've got so many applications from people with 10+ years experience (I have 5) which means my CV will no doubt get filed in the bin.
