Can anyone recommend a fault code reader or “scanner” for an X308 MY2001, I think I am after an ODB II tool of some description but not sure what to even begin to look for, please excuse my naivety.
I have seen that they come in three basic forms, Reader, Reader with the ability to rest fault codes, and fully blown bits of software that require a laptop and cable or Bluetooth. I would like the ability to reset fault codes and would possibly go for the all out software, if it is worth it.

I searched but it was full of a lot of misc. threads and nothing much about a “scanner” specifically, if anyone could let me know what “scanner” they use and how they find it in terms of results and ease of use it would be great.

Thanks in advance

Cecil.

I bought one of these bad boys

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Mine's a 2000 X308 and I checked with the seller on a couple of things and he's a nice chap, really helpful.
Ok, it's relatively low spec but if you just want to read codes it does the job excellently.
Bonus is that it works on our Smart and my Monaro too.

The scanner comes with most code explanations but this is a useful site too.
http://www.obd-codes.com/

There's almost too much info in there and there's a danger of looking too hard at times but it's a very good site nonetheless.

Hi, after a lot of research I bought a 20 GBP one from Amazon, through a third party, it worked a treat and cleared the "P0430 - Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2" and the Check engine light (MIL), see I am even getting some of the jargon smile I will keep an eye on this, thinking possible O2 sensor problem. My OBDII research left me wanting the AutoEnginuity with Jag extensions, 500USD+. Most of the cheaper ones do not have the functionality that this provides, any other functionality is only required if you want to start flashing and re-building ecu's, adding non factory modules etc.

Many thanks for the replies

Hi, the Check Engine Light never came back on; I have not rescanned it, assuming all is OK
