Bit of this and that...remap...shocks...clean...

Didnt want to really hijack the other upgrade thread so here's mine
Well it's off the market now
I took it up north last weekend and stopped at TVR Power for a much needed new battery, Dom's guy, Wayne, had a good look round it for me so got a few jobs on. Top guys, them!
It's a bit flat between gears, think it could be more responsive, it was rebuilt by V8D by the last owner and had a stage 3 head, forged pistons, stealth cam and bored to a 5.3 (and the pre-cats are out) but the mapping was never touched so I'm booked in with Paul @ Austec (sorry Dom, but he's closer) next week for a session
am thinking of the smooth bore kit too, would this be best at this point to get it you think? I also just took the front shocks off yesterday and sent them back to Protech to replace the worn rubber top bushes, it'll be good as gold when I'm done
...that bugs getting to me and its not even warm out there yet!!
While its on the axle stands am gonna give it a bit of clean under there too, am thinking of giving the chassis a splash with gunk and spray it down with the pressure washer then wire brushing it all and touching it all up with some hammerite..would this be the right thing to do? anything else to do while I'm under there? (no I wont kick the axle stands away!
)
Also got a perishing engine mount to replace, would this be best to get done at a TVR specialist? or could my local garage be trusted do such a job?

Engine mounts should be no problem for any decent garage, couple of bolts. Not that difficult DIY TBH. My mate runs a garage locally so I gave it to him to do recently.
Had the jitters recently too & nearly let it go but I'm really starting to enjoy it now. What on earth could replace a Griff 500? I'm even planning the body off job, not this winter though, maybe the year after.

If you're OK with being under the car to do the horrible job of scrubbing and painting the chassis you should have a go at changing the engine mounts yourself. They aren't that difficult to change - just a bit fiddly to get the bolts back in when you put the new ones on but well worth having a go at.

Its actually only a bit of scrubbing nothing major, its in pretty good nic.Wouldnt there be loads of things to disconnect before, I guess, jacking the engine up a touch?
No there's nothing to disconnect.
In this thread Click me Simon.b describes how he changed his which is just how I did mine.
Its just a bit fiddly putting in the bolts holding the bracket to the block - a finger tips twiddle job but not difficult and should only take you a couple of hours.

Just bought a load more tools today (there's commitment for you!) so I can take my loaned ones back! Thanks Jim
Last weekend I got under the car and got off a couple of spots of surface rust with a rotating wire brush attachment on my drill, the rust was on the front central member and the offside rear tubing at the back side under the arch, I also gave it a good general brush down of general loose debris and then gave it a good coating of gunk and power hosed it down, I then left a blower heater under there for a while to dry it off. I then got some white hammerite and painted the bare areas to match the rest of it.
I got the front shocks back from Protechshocks on Wednesday all refurbished, the ends look like brand new!!! Great deal I got off them too, a brilliant aftersales service, and it was the last owner who bought them too
I fitted them this afternoon and then took her for a spin, aw she was lovely
, she even sounded differently, dont know why!
I saw the engine mount while I was under there but wasnt able to tell if it was that bad so I left it for now, it did look like a really fiddly job for me TBH.
I postponed my remap with Austec today as a few days ago I had decided to get the ACT smooth bore induction kit at the same time and ACT had no stock, so I'm booked in for 3 weeks time! Cant wait!!
