Where does the main -ve connection form the battery go to?

Also where does the main +ve connection from the battery go to mine disappears up behind the dash board and then forwards through a hole at the rear of the dash but cannot see where it goes to.

When I put the isolation switch on the clock starts going, thats fine then I switch the ignition ON the fuel pump primes but as soon as I try to start the engine everything goes OFF even the clock will not work NOTHING WORKS.Checked the EARTH from the chassis to the engine and it seems like a bad connection, would this cause everything to stop working?

Brand New Battery fully charged.

Help is doing my head in!

Which side of the battery did you put the switch on,, + or -.. Sounds like a flat battery or bad earth,, If you havent moved anything and the car was starting ok before switch was fitted, sound unlikely its the earth lead.. Pos lead should go though bulk head to starter motor.. check battery first.

Switch is in -ve lead and has been in for 5years,car was ok until I started it and reversed it out of the garage. When I tried to re-start it then this problem started, removed my original battery as thought it was suspect, fitted new battery and still the same.

Do you know where the main -ve goes to from the battery as I thought the problem was a bad Earth myself.

Thought the -ve went to the nearside chassis mount under the centre console?, least mine does.
The engine has its own -ve from the chassis in the offside front wheel arch area.

Yep main –ve goes to earthing point on chassis inside car, it is located just behind the passenger door release lever. To get at it you need to remove the centre consol. +ve goes into engine bay, over bell housing ( just sat there resting on the engine !) and down to starter, from there it goes to the 100A fuse and up to the alternator. There is an earthing point at the rear of one of the heads but that is several thin wires for the sensors and is part of teh engine loom.

Whilst you are all chewing the fat over where the battery leads go, it sounds much more like the OP simply didn't tighten up his new battery isolator switch connections properly wink

Hi Guys

Thanks very much for the help, been very busy so no time to look at the Griff.
Probably be weekend before I get to it,in the meantime made up a new chassis to engine block earth connection, took the end sleeving off the old one half of the conductors not in the krimped on lug and the ones that were left were badly corroded so much so that a sharp twist broke them off.I will check all the other earth connections as well, hope to get to the bottom of the fault soon.
