Games for a lower-specced lappy?

Ok so new laptop (yaaay) substantially better than my laptopless existstence (how did I ever live without one?)

Any ideas what games might run nicely on this? I'm thinking it might be time for a trip down memory lane for some of the lower specced yesteryear classics that should fly on it.

Spec wise we have a 1.5ghz dual core and intel integrated graphics. It will run WoW at low detail and according to some reviews of this model manages a massive 5 fps on Fear (the first one...) so the shiny stuff is definitely out.

Will be installing baldurs gate 2 a little later and of course Peggle... any other thoughts?

There has to be something new-ish other than the AAA shiney titles I normally love on the desktop..

Anything on Steam that takes your fancy?

HL2? Portal? (Very good) Maybe Team Fortress or Counter Strike? They aren't too bad on my 3 year old lappy with a 1800+ AMD Turion and integrated graphics if you turn some detail down.

you do realise that as its not a gaming laptop (NOT LAPPY ARGHHHH,that really annoys me people calling them that) that if you try and run things like WoW on it for any length of time it will just die after a while.

tis what happernd to my old laptop when I started playing things like WoW on it and it wasnt a gaming lapTOP.

Erm no reason it should die so long as everything is kept cool. I'd suggest the death of your machine falls into the realms of pure coincidence.

It's nowhere near cutting edge hardware but whether it's a transcoding movies, playing games or something actually productive it makes no difference what it's running.

There's nothing special about a *gaming* laptop over anything else in the same way a *gaming* desktop differs from a normal one (unless we're getting silly) in the addition of a decent GFX card, spot more ram and decent cooling.

You could quite happily take a new core 2 office PC with a half decent spec and drop a £100 gfx card in it and run most games quite happily at sensible resolutions.

This has been running WoW since new damn near non-stop since april last year btw(belonged to a friend before I bought it off them).

Before I put Ubuntu on it I was running TotalWar:Rome on my old 2ghz Pentium 4, 512mb ATi Radeon laptop so that should run ok on yours too.
