reburbishing a polished rim
Discussion
hello
im currently looking at getting my wheels refurbished but have been thinking of doing it myself as i have abit of free time on my hands.
at the moment my alloys are baddly coroded on the rims and curbed so would need stripping down to get rid of the curbs marks and then polish up ans re laquer.
are there any guides out there on the best way to this or any advice you can give me?
any help appreciated.
btw i have had a few drinks so apoligise for my spelling/typing
kind regards
alex

Polishing rims is usually thought to require a wheel lathe and several grinding stones and then mops of different coarseness.
Lacquering polished rims effectively *will* require professional spray equipment, and a direct-adhesion clearcoat (rare) - and these AFAIK all contain isocyanate hardeners - so they're not suitable for a DIY sprayer at all.
You might be able to sort out the rims with a grinder or sander, and go progressively up through the grades, then polish them the same way, but don't attempt re-lacquering. Just resign yourself to having to do a bit with the alloy polish on your wheels every few weeks...

Machine polishing is easier but more than do-able by hand (I know as I've done all my Triumph alloys that way).

Though for some reason the UK site now seems to stock a different range of polishes (and don't like replying to emails asking how their range relates to the US Truckers and Custom Blends
