The springs are tied to the damper to stop them popping out,i think

I think the top spring seat/retainer popped out not so long back so this is a quick fix to stop it happening again. Perhaps new springs are needed in the long term .

Suspension aside.............
is that your car just been posted in the classified, whats the story , perhaps you should give JSG first refusal if it is.

But the spring seat isn't tied to the damper top fitting is it? So what does this achieve? (Presumably the problem is that somebody has fitted uprated springs and found the existing dampers have too much droop travel?)

Yes I'm affraid it is - JSG was the first person I told - it breaks my heart, everything is finally sorted out with her and I then find myself unemployed, which is not the best position to be in with one of these babies.

No - no uprated springs - the car just spat the spring and shock out about three weeks ago - so Richard at RT drilled a small hole in the seat and tied the spring to it - he did this to persude my wife that its safe to ride in once more - are you shattering that illusion ?

I know that you can get 'helper' springs that are used for people lowering their cars but using the same dampers. They don't have much spring power, but keep the alignment when the shock is at full extension.

May be a longer lasting solution.
