911SC Club sport owners
Discussion
My name is Adrian Streather and I am writing my second Porsche book. I am looking for a 911SC Club Sport owner who would like to submit some images for my book. This is a special UK only delivery hence me being here on this UK site.
I would also like to hear from any 911SC Sportomatic owners. I am going indepth into the Sportomatic. I need images of an actual 925/16 transmission.
Ciao,
Adrian

I owned one of these cars until 18 months ago,,the registery at the porsche club is superb, they have 99% of the 53 uk cars accounted for and pictures of most of them...the jewel is the one red car with white lettering in contrast to the other 52 hite cars with red lettering.I understand a couple of the cars have been in collections with negligible miles since new.
One minor point Adrian is that in the uk the car is known as a 911 Carrera Clubsport..The SC was superceded here by the Carrera in 1983.

There are 1 or 2 less well kept examples amongst the 53,heavily modified tracked cars are the cheapest..
For Pricing the benchmark used was £4-5k premium above the equivalent 911 Carrera Sport....
Prices have held up well considering the car was £37k when new and it was cheaper than the Carrera Sport.
Demand was not great at the time of manufacture.as it was the '80s owners wanted guards red with a/c etc....wind up window lightweight cars were not favoured. It took between 1987-1989 to sell the 53 UK cars !

Does anyone have any contact details for the register. I have just been to look at one of these cars and want it now.
However I would like to contact the previous owner to ask him a few questions about the car.
What are these cars like to live with on a day to day basis. I will be running this as my main car if I get it?
What are the typical running costs?
etc.
etc.

I ran a 1989 Clubsport as a daily driver for 2 1/2 years, definitely one of my favourite 911.
Fine as a shopping car in it's element on trackdays or at the ring.
They are not expensive to run I had a small and a major service in this time, small is £250, major approx £450. the only other thing i needed was a set of tyres. Yokohamas seemed to be the best for the car.
There is not too much to go wrong on them, especially compared to regular 3.2 as they don't have the electric seats and windows or a/c which can cause problems on older cars.
The only major thing to consider is valve guide wear which could lead to a top end overhaul this is caused by short trips or being caned before the oil is warmed, the cost of this is approx £3k.I would suggest a compression test to check engine condition or a rolling road should show in 232-242 bhp range certainly not in the 220's.
The only reason I sold the car was that it's only real failing was the brakes, they are no where near as good as those on modern Porsches. I could have upgraded, but modifications on CS tend to affect the values negatively, originality is important.
The car you are looking at seems fairly priced for a dealer, i think it is E***AWL which is included on the register.
Michael is a very helpful and enthusiastic chap and I am sure he will steer you in the right direction. I beleive he is now assisted by Steve Darnell although I have never contacted him.
Good luck with the car.
