Anyone get caught up on the A40 today?
Discussion
Sadly, yet another serious RTA on the A40. Bad driving by 2 cars have caused an Artic to rollover totally blocking the road.
Fourteen hours later and its still closed and now the whole carriageway needs to be resurfaced.
As a result of this many thousands of commuters have and will be stuck in many miles of tailbacks and diversions.
Why dont people just drive properly

Why can't we clear roads faster?
Even in the USA - that most litigious of countries - the roads are rapidly reopened even after 'injury accidents' (including deaths). They appreciate the value of a road system - something we seem to have forgotten over here ... despite killing off the railways and now shifting long-haul post onto another 160,000 lorry journeys.
Oh, and BTW, the Yanks increased their speed limits on arterial highways and the Highway Patrol now appears to allow +10 to +15% over the posted limits ... it keeps the traffic flowing!

In this case there were a number of reasons.
Apart from the fact that there was wreckage everywhere, we had to wait until daylight to gather all the evidence from the scene.
Next problem is removing all the cargo from the Artic, and finally....how to recover an Artic that had wedged itself across all 3 lanes.
Oh, and finally........getting specialist teams together to dig up and resurface the road so its fit for use.
All of this because some t*at couldnt drive properly.

What are these morons on eh?
You said it mate - what on earth do these people think they are doing... like you said - I too hope they go away for a VERY long time..... accidents do happen, but by the sounds of things - racing, pissed and running away from the scene..... should add up to 5 years at least (hope?).
So I guess they were racing eachother then.
It took 2 hours to drive from Gipsy corner to Uxbridge this morning at 0730. Nightmare!
Like the other thread regarding Saturdays crash, this bit of road is straight and probably the widest bit of the A40, How difficult is it to drive between the lines?

Yes youre correct, the road is straight at that point.
I was at the HLG system on a Motorbike for the best part of 4 hours.
I started off by stopping people going down onto the A40 and giving them advice but then gave up and let them find out for themselves.
One bloke didnt listen to my helpful advice as i explained what had happened and instead shouted at me to give him another route...like it was my fault.
After a few seconds though i told him that if he wanted to use the A40 then he could be my guest. He thanked me and drove down the sliproad.
I saw him 2 hours later, still stuck in traffic as i rode past him and i must admit i laught my gonnads off
You just cant help somepeople can you.?

Tony,
What has the addition of speed camera's on the A40 done for accident figures?
Surely a case for MORE Traffic Pol units to try and stop this kind of thing from happening time and time again?
Steve
Steve, i dont know the figures but as far as im concerned, they slow about 80% of the people down for about 50m then they just speed up again.
This is the 3rd fatality on this road in a week and it does need some heavy handed old fashioned Policing.
