Not that long ago I had the slave cylinder replaced and now the clutch biting point is when the pedal is at its full range of travel.

Please can someone tell me how to adjust it so the biting point comes further up. I have looked in the manual but can't find anything on it. Looking underneath the car I can't see anywhere obvious to adjust.

Cheers,
Mark

There is no adjustment on a hydraulic clutch - or at least I've never seen one with adjustment!

It either works or it doesn't. It might be worth bleeding the system though if you feel that you're not getting enough clearance.

Have you checked the fluid level?

You can adjust it a bit at the top of the clutch pedal where the rod for the Master cylinder joins it, there's not much range though.

I had this problem, turned out to be low clutch fluid level.

How does the pedal feel? I you can't feel resistance from the clutch pressuring against the diagphragm spring (apart from the very first bit of pedal travel) then there's either still air in the system or the seals have gone in either the master or the slave.

When i fitted my new clutch/slave & master cylinders i could only engage 1st gear,i sorted it by adjusting the clutch padal travel which is done from inside the car, there is a nut on the threaded pushrod on the back of the pedal to adjust it.

There is resistance in the pedal but its very linear, there is no change in pressure as you push the pedal down. I don't think there is any air in there becasue if you pump the pedal a few times it still gives the same range of movement and will still not allow gears to be selected.

The slave and master cylinder are very recent so I would hope they wont be a problem. If there are seals gone would I see fluid pooling under the car?

Also ca I put the same fluid I put in the brakes in the clutch as well? As it says its for brakes and clutches.

edited to add; I will have a look at adjusting the pedal but I don't think that is where the problem stems from.

UPDATE

Took the car (on the back of an AA truck) to Tom at TH works. We had the gearbox off and discovered two fingers had broken on the clutch so new clutch time! Its a bugger but the car has done 43k miles on that clutch so can't complain too much. New clutch arriving tomorrow and will be fitted then. The most annoying thing was that I scraped the arch when getting out the garage with no clutch so filling and respraying needed weeping That combined with the clutch has meant not a good day!

I did'nt replace the clutch because when the slave was done it apparently looked in good nic. I was asked if I wanted it replaced but stupidly decided against it - Lesson learnt!

The clutch did not go in today because the bloody delivery company did not deliver it! I paid 40 quid for next day before 10 delivery aswell! mad I will be recouping a mornings labour cost plus the delivery charge off them as Tom at TH works only really opened up today to do my clutch!
