I have just bought some scuttle clips to put on my car where none were previously fitted.

Can anyone shed some light (or even take a photo) of how it should fit. The only way that I can see that it would do anything is bonding it onto the scuttle as shown in the photo below. However, it would be fairly horrible to look at - can it really be like that?

Tasty eh... Bet you're jealous, removing it is one of those little jobs I need to get round to doing.

So is that really how they go on? Talk about Heath Robinson vomit

I'm not sure what you mean here.......do you mean the 2 clips that hold it the panel in place?? They bond to the underside of that panel, so you can't see them.

Mike,

thanks for that, a great help - so the clip is bonded to the removeable cover and clips under the front edge of the panel at the base of the windscreen?
I'll go back and have a look at mine to see if it all makes sense!

Yes, that is how it works.

There may be the remains of the old clip still bonded to the panel. I had to dig the remains of the old one out of the sealant. I probably didn't roughen the underside of the new clip enough to allow the sikaflex to get a decent hold.

Mike,

cheers for the photo, though having looked at my scuttle panel it seems to be completely different.

Firstly the shape of the corner where it fits against the bonnet lock means that it can only be fitted by pushing down on it - ie there is no space to push the panel down and then slide back to push the clip into place.

Secondly, the underside of the panel doesn't have the raised areas on which to mount the clip. As you can see at the moment it has a foil covered foam piece bonded in and, at present, when fitted, the underside of the panel comes nowhere near close enough to the panel beneath the windscreen to clip into it.

Mine is a very early car (the 20th made) so I'm guessing that they made changes to the later ones. I don't actually have any issues with the panel lifting but wanted to sort it out as I'm supposed to be going to VMax in April - where it may be a problem...

Oh well. I'll have a think about alternative fixings...
