LPG for Conversion for C36 AMG (W202)

Hi all,

I am considering buying a C36, but would probably need to have an LPG conversion done at some point as the fuel costs will do me no favours.

Has anyone had experience of these cars with a LPG conversion?
What do people think of LPG conversions as a whole?

Any information / comments would be much appreciated.

I can`t think why you`d want to . If you like the C36 , accept that whilst it`s good on fuel for it`s type (I can get over 30mpg on a run) , it`s not really about cost cutting . I made some enquiries ome time ago to convert a 300TE I owned and a good conversion would cost £1500+ .
The corresponding mileage one would have to do (taking into account that the LPG would blunt the car`s performance anyway) makes a conversion unfeasable .

Buy the car and run it on super unleaded and youll have fun .

Mine`s back on the road on Wednesday after a winter in the garage . Splendid.

I had a W124 E300 estate converted to run on LPG and it was fantastic and did around 90k miles in it in 3 years. One of the best cars ive ever owned and maybe the cheapest as well.

I don't understand LPG conversion on performance cars, specially when they're getting on a bit now and most are on the wrong side of 100,000 miles. If you're doing 90,000 in 3 years I can understand, but very few people do that and even less on an older car with already a lot of miles.
The LPG conversion will take a long time to pay back, and that's assuming it gets done with no issues and no other added cost. Just run the car normally and enjoy it without thinking too much of the cost of fuel. If you want to make yourself feel better, it's more economical than a C43

I can manage about 30 mpg on a long run aswell, so it's not too bad. There are plenty of bigger engined cars running LPG these days so it should be possible on the C36, although you have to be carefull in choosing where you get it done.

Most of these cars will be the wrong side of 100k as mentioned, the prices seem to start from 3k up to around 6k for lower mileage examples(60k upwards). The other thing to consider is that you are unlikely to recoup much of the cost of the conversion when it comes time to sell.

Have you thought of getting the C43 and doing an LPG conversion, newer car and not that much more to buy. The only problem isthe higher running costs as there are a lot more AMG parts in it compared to the C36.

I know what you mean about the cost of a conversion, I probably wouldn’t get the money back.
I will have to try and think of another way (rather than it will be good on fuel) to convince my better half that buying one is a good idea.
I supose (as mentioned) that a C43 could be a good idea, I could get an estate
