I am in a position to finally commit to my dream car in the near future.

In preparation for this I started having a look today. In the space of a day I changed my mind from having to have a 355 after seeing one outside the gym, to a 430 when I say one parked in the street to then a 612 and finally a Maserati GT when I went to the showroom. I was equally convinced each time that i was 'settled' on my choice.

I have no idea how I will ever narrow it down and commit to one!

When you bought yours did you know what you wanted and went for it or did you kiss a lot of frogs like it feels I am going to do?

so many cars so little time?

no you're not alone.

However if i'm honest, noone can really help you with your choice.

it's purely subjective.

we all have our favourites and our reasons for them.
i have a 360, but i'd recommend a 355 for you.

keep looking around, drive a couple and your heart will help you make the decision as you'll keep coming back to the car you really want.

What I have always found is that when considering a new car eg car A,B,C,D, you want car A, think about B, then come back to car A, think about C, come back to A again, the one you really want seems to be the fulcrum that your other considerations rotate around.

Sage advice.

I always judge a car by comparing it's merits to a 355. Guess that shows something.........

Whilst buying the 430 spider I saw a stunning 612 for sale, not my choice but this particular car in the colour and with 20" wheels looked stunning.

First things first:

Narrow it down, the 4 cars mentioned above, I take it if you can consider a 430/612 or Maserati GT then the 355 is out of the question. I would ignore it as its older than the rest and could suffer from more issues so why bother.

As for the remaining three, any others you are considering?

Two seats ok or preferably four?

Preferable colour?

Preferable budget?

Welcum to my world of car buying!

To offer some advice of absolutely no use to you whatsoever I can honestly say Ive never worked out how to arrive at a sensible conclusion. I generally end up buying something on the spur of the moment because it seemed like a good idea at the time. This has resulted in such outcomes as buying the first TVR Griffith I saw rather than shopping round, buying a Sagaris even though I didnt really like it that much after an initial test drive and buying an Integrale and handing over my cash that I had never seen or driven before.

Told you it was no use if you wanted a logical answer smile If you wanted a car geek reply though it is the perfect answer...you just go with whatever instinct tells you to buy something when it strikes you.

I cant gaurantee that this approach *wont* cost you muchos dosh though! My wife thinks I am permanently stupid...she has a case to be honest.

I wish I could be in that World. I would get soooooo much into trouble from SWMBO if I started looking at one of these and ended up at another.

I know how good an F355 you can get for £35k because I am about to advertise one for sale around that price, but the lowest priced Maserati GT I can see is £55k, the lowest priced F430 I can see is £68k, lowest 612 I can see on PH Classifieds is £74k. Unfortunately in my wee world the budget bands are a bit more restricted frown

This is why I spend a lot of time in trouble with my wife and being skint.

one of the best ways to narrow it down is to drive the bl**dy cars then make an informed opinion. or is that to obvious ?

That would be the sensible course of action I agree.

I didn't think going into HR Owen and arranging to drive a 355, 430, 612 and Maser GT was a sensible way to get taken seriously though.

My thought wasn't really how to decide once I get to that stage but more " Does anyone else have this level of indecision?"

If I walked further down the road I'm sure I would see the Lambo garage and think they looked like "the one".

I had hoped the scatterbrain approach previously was because I couldn't actually buy one and when I could it would be an easy choice.

How wrong I was.............

You must have some idea. Its very difficult for us to comment not knowing what you are after especially since the cars you refer to very extensively amongst each other not only in looks but practicality and also price.

Personally out of the 4, i would take either the 612 or GT. Never been a fan of 430 rear end. The others cars are very beautiful though.

The point is I know they are different in every aspect.

Its the fact that my mind can change so dramatically often!!

My budget is 75k.

I need 4 seats but will buy a big barge and a 2 seater if need be.

Sorry i know what you mean. Why dont you ask the wife/girlfriend and at least see what she likes out of the possibilities? I love it when my girlfriend drives the car and even better, she loves cars and is thinking of a Bentley CGT.

Its a nice thought to think of buying two nice cars (starting a collection) instead of one very nice one but its establishing two nice cars that make it worthwhile and fill the buzzometer, for 75k I would buy a rare colour Diablo and a black 7 series.

Weigh up the depreciation unless you dont give a monkeys as I have rarely lost money on all cars I have bought, sometimes making some.

get which ever one is flavour of the month right now & chop it in when its not. For one of the others. For me it would be the 612 next, moving up from a masser GS.

I'd go for that, or just get a quite cheap saloon and save up for awhile for your sports car.

Took me 10 years to get my Ferrari. I wanted a 355 for the first 5 years, then I started lusting after the 360. I still wanted the 360 when the 430 came out. Took a test drive of the spec I wanted, salesman asked if I wanted to buy it. Thats like having half a shag and asked if you want to finish it. Great car.

I'll be getting a new motor in August. Right now the list is AM V8, DBS (if prices come down below £100K), Maser GranTourismo, Gallardo, R8 and possibly a few more. They are all so different that the only way I'm going to decide is to drive them all and see which one juices me up. You cannot chose without driving these things!!

I was lucky really - I always wanted a Countach since I was a kid. I did think of a Diablo, and didn't fully dismiss one at first. But my logic was that I really wanted a Countach, so if I got a Diablo I would still want a Countach one day. I reasoned that if I get tired of the Countach I could sell it a get a Diablo. That's not looking likely though as I still love the Countach and can't see me tiring of it.....ever smile. My biggest problem was convincing myself that I had the minerals to buy a Lambo at all - as at the time a really big bill would see it stored whilst I saved. In the end I went with my heart and not my head, and I'm so glad I did. So my advice: Which do you really want deep down? Is there one you think you would always want to own most, even if you bought one of the others? On a much lower scale, I always fancied a Jaguar XJ but a few years ago, on the verge of getting one, I found and bought a superb Camaro Z28 (I'd had a few Yank motors so knew what I was doing, and it was a great car). I owned that for around 6 years, but what did I replace it with in the end? - A Jag XJR. So, if there is one you really fancy most, stick to your guns and get one - otherwise it'll be an itch you have never scratched, even when you had the chance to. If that doesn't help then I'm all out of ideas getmecoat
