I went out for a morning blat the other day and decided against taking the camelpak and using a bottle cage instead as it was only a 20km ride.

I couldn't however for the life of me get the cage to sit in the center of the frame once it was tightened. I thought perhaps the cage could be faulty and tried it on my runabout (Specialized Sirrus), and it was perfect.

After a bit of careful examination, it looks as though the holes are mounted badly. Since I have a "lifetime" warranty on the frame as I bought the bike from new, is this covered in any way.

It's a total pain in the arse since the bottle sticks out a little too much to one side causing my leg to knock it every once in a while.

(Just to note the cage and bottle are also Specialized so they can't blame that!!!)

I would just bend the cage mounting so that it sits straight.

I would take it back to where you bought it, the frame could be repaired - new mounts fitted, or Specialized will replace the frame under warranty.

A mate of mine has a Stumpy FSR 08, and the original bottle cage he bought caused the rear shock lockout to be engaged when he had a bottle in! He (and his LBS) thought he would have to get the frame changed, but Specialized advised using one of their own brand bottle cages, and it clears the lockout by 1 or 2mm now!
