Hi

Well today has not gone to well.

It started well, we got the gearbox off, clutch off and then the flyweel very easily. Then found my problem, the ringear had not been full fitted from new! You can see were it had not been fitted flush on the flywheel! No problem, fit replacment flywheel and gear. Then we started to look at the old clutch and slave cylinder. The slave cylinder had started to weep a little so we took it apart to replace the seals, to find they had all swollen up! The normal reason for that is incorrect fluid reacting with the seals! So what had been used before. What should we use now!
We replaced the seals and refitted the slave to the bell housing.
Then the clutch was inspected and there was a little life left in the friction plates, but it was worth replacing the plates/clutch.

That's when we started to hit the big problem.

My old clutch is a CP5282-2CRV the new is a CP5258-34CRV which is about an inch deeper! It will not fit with the bolts we have etc, plus will it fit in the bell housing and will the slave still work?
It's sounds like I need the later modified bell housing, has anyone any ideas were I can get one and what else do I need?
I will on Monday try TVR Carparts and Clever Trevor but any other ideas will be helpfully!

At least I managed to fit the immobiliser to my wedge OK today. So some thing came out of the day!!!!!

My old man changed the clutch on his 4.5 (what a PITA!)

Finally got it all back together, only to find that the new clutch would not disengage banghead

It turns out that the orginal re-used bolt heads were too thick for the new clutch, causing contact with the flywheel!

Same part number though!

smile

P.S. How's the Wedge going?

hi had exactly the same problem and i was in greece at the time so when i received the new clutch and slave from tvr power it wouldnt fit! best bet would be to resurface the friction plates of your old clutch, or call tvr power or clever trevor with your bellhousing number and explain the situation you could also send them pics of the flywheel, slave clutch etc. they ll suggest a mod to your flywheel (shave off some mm's) so it will take the new clutch. those guys can do it for you

The diffferance in the clutch is an 1 inch the fly wheel is only about that deep so you cant shave some off there will be no fly wheel left!

Has any one got any more ideas!

I am also worreid about what happened to the seals in the slave cyl, they had all swollen up, just like they would if they had been in the incorrect fluid!

TVR were pikeys and used sub standard grade rubber.

They absorbed the fluid and that's why they fail.

That and the fact none of the slave cylinders were tidied up after machining, mine had razor sharp edges where the o-rings sat. You'd slice the buggers putting it together!

I had a 'light weight' flywheel with my new race proved clutch.

No idea what this means.

I bought slave seals from Joolz a couple of years ago that were an upgraded rubber. Does anyone else sell these now?

Got mine from APM. I believe they were a better rubber and not prone to the absorption problems.
