How far to go....
Discussion
Having dismantled Lucy the fire damaged S2 I now have lots of bits which can be shotblasted/powdercoated to fix to Gerald without the inconvienance of him being off the road while they are being done.
I am especially interested in blinging up the suspension. Now the questions is the front wishbones can be done no problem but what about the hub carrier and the bit that fits into the top for the upper ball joint.

Will shotblasting damage the bearing faces or will hey need to be masked off for blasting as well as powdercoating? and where there are threaded fixings eg the bolt that retains the upper bit am i better of getting the coating done with a bolt in place or tpping the thread out later. Obviously the wheel studs would need to be masked for coating

Hi Norman,
I striped mine down and left the bearing races in the knuckles, I machined a couple of bits of ally, put a 5mm hole through and bolted the two discs in with 5mm studding and nuts.
I have seen some with plastic discs cut from 1mm modelers plactic card.
Many things to use, you may even find a jam jar lids to fit.

You'll definitely need to mask the bearing housings for blasting. They are machined to very close tolerances and if you damage them the bearings are likely to fall out. I would mask the mating surfaces of that balljoint adapter as well, or leave it in the hub and put a bolt through to protect the taper.I would use a tap to clean out the threaded holes after coating. If you leave a bolt in you will probably lift or chip the finish when you remove it, the blokes in the tv hotrod progs use taps to clean up after coating.
