As the title says I did this by mistake today. 60mph in 2nd is almost at the rev limiter. When I changed down I felt a vibration like going over the tramlines on a motorway. Only last a second. What could have caused that, car feels fine so hopefully no damage done.

A slack wrist? Lack of co-ordination? rofl

Anyway, probably flex the propshaft causing it to batter against the trans tunnel or something, worst that will happen is fked propshaft bearing.

If you can still accelerate to 60 in 2nd without getting that sensation you are probably ok.

Changeing down to 60 in 2nd should do any damage. Quite regularly see 65 in 2nd in my 320, not on the downchange right enough...

try 6th to second at about 90, que lots of tyre smoke and a stamp on the clutch then pop it back into 4th where it was destined for.

no damage to the car though, surpisingly

I'd have thought the clutch would slip to avoid too much damage to the drivetrain.

60 in 2nd is no biggy. The most you could do is damage the syncro mesh getting the gear in if you were a little rough.
