Has any one here tried Skype on an iphone, I travel a fair bit (US, far east, europe) and am shocked how much my roaming charges are, just wondered if Skype could save me some cash

Look for Fring on the appstore. It needs a wifi connection though.

I have an itouch and use skype regularly, I use it through Truphone, which is free, and is superb. Using an itouch means that I must be within wifi range to use it, thoroughly recommend it. I work overseas and it has cut my phone bill drastically.

I have been using skype on my itouch for the last 3 weeks, via Truphone, it costs nothing.

I would expect ths to be much more excpensive as roaming data charges are astronomical. Unless you are connected to free wi-fi all the time then steer clear of this option.

You don't need Wireless for fring on iPhone if yours is jailbroken. You download an app called VoipOver3G or Mobilesubtrate and it works over the 3G connection....;)

Another vote for Truphone. You can also use other IM applications theough it.

Yes, but the point is to use VOIP for cheap calls when abroad. This is kind of FUBAR if your provider is charging you £8 a Meg...

I thought all the skype compatible applications were just for the instant messaging part of skype.

If you want to make skype phone voip calls then don't you need to wait for the actual skype application or use truphone?

I believe the iPhone Skype application will only work on WiFi (in the same way as Fring) so no danger or running up roaming data charges when using it.
