power steering sagaris

Hi all,

i have a question about the power steering system of the sagaris. is the pump always running when the engine runs or will the pump be turned on and off depending on the steering angle?

I think its electric (could be wrong) and runs when the engine is off - atleast when I grab the steering wheel it appears to want to turn just before I start her...

Right, it's electric but I don't know if pump is always turned on while the engine is on or if there are some additional sensors in the steering system wich activates the electric pump when it's needed.

Power steering pump is electrical (Renault/Peugeot item) and is supplied direct from the battery via 80 amp fuse and relay, the pump runs for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on and continuously when the engine is running.

mine seems to make a lot of electrical noise, do other do this?

Yup, they tend to whine a little - if its excessive there may be a bit of the power steering system touching the body (causing the noise to travel..)
