While browsing some kitcar manufacturers website for news, I found that Mev has a new Kit, the Atomic.

Maybe this kit could be one of its competitors, a single seater with an R1 engine, but the designs are different......

Doesn't quite do it for me I am afraid. Outboard front dampers, slab sides and overall the impression you cannot afford an Atom. If it was not for the Atom it would be a nice car, but it just screams something at me I don't quite get. Maybe "cheap" is the wrong word, as it probobly uses many kit car standard components, but the idea of these cars to me is to put the functional parts on display as a thing of beauty (atom chassis and suspension). Should at least have inboard springs like a R1ot. And curved sides

Engine next to the driver made me think of dpcars. It can't have been that long since I looked at the site but things have moved on tremendously. He's now cosidering converting his little 4 wheel drive racer into an electric racer.
that guy really needs to build that bloody dp1 with a tubular steel chassis and a R1 or busa engine in it. would make a great trackday car!!!!!!Chris.

I think you'll find the idea of all these cars is value for money fun. If you can afford an Atom then you're not going to be looking at one of these or indeed a Fury. But if you want value for money explosive performance on a tight budget I think you will. These cars are all about handling and going quickly round corners So it's going to be all about how they drive. Given the design brief and what's been built I suspect the Atomic is going to be pretty close to the mark. The only way to find out is to give it a damned good drive. If you're looking for style and spending Atom type money then come to Stoneleigh and I'll show you a car you will want to try

This one is lacking Focus, we use Focus donors in our other cars though. Ha Ha.
This one is about perfect weight distribution and light weight.
It will cost under £6k to build and thats allowing for a used R1 engine and anciliaries.
At around one third of a ton and with 150bhp on tap it promises fun. One seat so we dont overload a clutch thats not designed for a car and minimal body work to reduce weight. Most cars are un balanced when you add a driver, but not this one.
Its not trying to compete with mine or anyone else's products.
We make 2 cars with 2 seats, one with and one without a body. This one is a bike with 4 wheels and light enough to be driven on a bike licence.
It uses rear uprights on the rear not like some kits on offer that use fronts with the steering locked off. The rear tracking is adjustable though.
The chassis has been designed by consulting engineers who also design roller coasters and fair ground rides. The suspension and wishbones are designed to take 300 ft lbs of torque.
I may change a few details before production.
It will be BIVA compliant and will have an electric reverse option which costs only £30 extra. Current pictures show it without alloy panels to the engine and prop. I develop a new car about every 6 months. Some are bespoke one off's and all are radical and will not suit the taste of everyone. But thats partly to do with the fact that they are not replica's or designed in the 60's which is what the scene is dominated by of course. If only one in a million Brits wanted one I couldnt make that many anyway! Let alone the rest of the world. Happy to answer q's. Regards Stiggy

I take my hat off to you Mr Mills
As you say your cars don't appeal to everyone but you cannot deny that they are innovative.
I love the idea, especially at £6000. I, like many, probably prefer a pretty body, but then I guess you aren't going to get a 350kg weight.
I look forward to seeing the finished article in the flesh.

What have you got? Do you have a stand there? I will be there both days
Yes I'll be there with something which, from what you've said, ought to interest you. It's quite quite different to Stiggy's machines as it's a lot more money but you have to cut your cloth according to your wallet and I think MEV do a fantastic job producing some excellent value for money fun cars which in my opinion is what kit cars are really all about. I think Stiggy is incredible in how he produces innovative new machines at a fantastic rate and what's more he gets them on the tarmac and puts his money where his mouth is. I'd love to see how this latest creation performs I'm sure you'll get one hell of a lot of bangs for your bucks with it. I think his Sonic is superb and I'd love to build one, hopefully when I've got a spare moment and some spare cash I might. Right at the moment though I'm busy with a couple of machines which whilst not as innovative as MEV's will grab quite a few folk's attention. Come and chat to us at Stoneleigh. If you ca't find me just ask the Stigg, he'll send you over I'm sure.Heaven knows what MEV are going to come up with next, I love the way they seem to have no end of enthusiasm and vigour. I for one am glad that someone comes out with new ideas rather than just reproducing old tried and tested to death designs. Just how many Sevens and Cobras are there now ? I first got involved in kit cars in the early 80's and they are still churning them out. Hooray for MEV I say
