Plug Extenders

Due to having Griff headers on the Tasmin Racer, the leads got very hot, I so fitted some Griff plug extenders / Head Shields, and fitted new Monroe Leads. (I forgot who said this was a good idea)

Iain has since said this is bad Idea, as they not used with later cars with coil packs, and they can come loose.

So Should I use them or not, plus anyone know the reason they should not be used with coil packs. (Emerald say you should have resistive plugs ( I know the Extenders add 5k) so would have thought this would be a good think esp if you not got resistive plugs, (BTW) I have.)

I could use some heat wrap to protect the leads, but not sure all the leads will now reach as I've allready cut the Monroe's to length.

Leigh, slight mis-quote there, I was suprised they were needed with coil packs as neither the P38 Rangerover nor the Disco II which both run coil packs have them fitted as standard; that said Disco 1s dont have them and use the same ignition setup as the Chim/Griffs. Unless there was an absolute techinal need to use them I'd stay clear as they add an extra area for potential reliability issues to creep if they do indeed come loose etc.

Resistance in the HT circuit is there in order to reduce EMI caused by the pulsing current, if you want to make yourself really unpopular in the neighbourhood, use soild core mains flex for HT leads and no resitive plugs, it will interfere with every transmitted signal, wireless or wired in about a 5mile radius

Is it really that bad? I run non-resistive plugs, ACT non-resistive extenders, leads similar to the Moroso ones and have never had any problems with interference in 18 months. The only person I've ever heard of actually causing interference was a friend with a pre-cat Griff. He ran standard dizzy setup, B7ECS plus as I used to run, ACT extenders and Magnecor leads and caused interferece with his neighbour's sky boxes when he drove past - but strangely only the two sky boxes which were about 10m from the drive. Never affected his or my stuff so it was a bit confusing! Seems to be a bit hit and miss...

Cant say wether you should or shouldn't but I do. I run coil packs, magnecor, resisted extenders and unresisted plugs. Emerald K3. I tried running unresisted extenders from RPI but they caused ecu errors, everything seems fine. Magnecor reccommend extenders on their website.

Sorry for the slight miss quote,( just a little pissed off with all the problems)

AFAIK the later P38 Rangerover nor the Disco II, that run coil pack do recomend using resistive plugs though.

Allways looking for alternatives to choose but CRE ? leads. Can you enlighten me.
