Here's one for you, spotted at Millbrooke Specialist cars in Sheffield, undergoing a restoration. Its a Ferrari 250 GTO, but when it was built, the owner specified a different body than the normal GTO. On the downside, it means its only worth about a million.

Its not a GTO. 250 series maybe but not GTO.

Apparently the chassis is. Only going on what I've been told though. It was going to be a GTO at birth, but had a different body? Though quite how different the 250 GTO chassis is from oth 250 models I'm not sure.

The only serial I know of with a completely different body work is S/N 4713 and that is not it.

If you post the picture on Ferrari Chat in the Vintage section they will be able to identify it for you and most likely give you the serial number.

I would be interested to see what it is, but I am almost 100% certain it isnt a 250 GTO.

what's the score with a "rebody"?

saw this one as I was walking home past Joe Macari

http://www.joemacari.com/cars/ferrari_250GTO_0608/...

are they 250 non-GTOs reskinned as a GTO

does it add value, or detract due to unoriginality?

Not quite that, that side vent is in the wrong place.

And that line running down the side.

The car wasn't a re-bodies as such, just never given a 250 GTOs body when it was originally built.

I see you asked question on FChat. Here is the best response...

Pininfarina Coupe 1751GT was started by Pininfarina on 22/01/60. Some claims of having been ordered with special body mods have been made, but I as no docs seem to exist confirming this, I assume is is just another poor PF Coupe hot rodded with closed headlights and fender vents. Best wishes, Kare

Here is what it actually is...

...whether the coachwork is special order or after market is subject to debate.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately quite a few 250GTEs and 330s have been butchered to "make" GTOs.

The loss of great roadcars to make dogs dinner is not a good thing frown

Been up close & personal with this car, yes it's 1751GT (a PF Coupe).
DEFINETELY left the factory as a standard car & has since had many amatur body & fittings mods IN SPITE OF WHAT THE OWNER SAYS IT IS! (He also claims to own a genuine GTO, TdF & TR but they're all copies)

I know 250 prices have gone up a huge amount since 2000 (1751gt sold for just under £40k at auction)...........but not by over 2000% biggrin

Ah, right, its true he also has a GTO replica, but its not claimed to be a real one. Claims the TR is real though.

Nice to find out stuff properly though. Its amazing how much you chaps know.

If anything this thread was far more interesting than I thought getting to the bottom of the little mystery.
