Need help with a valuation - Range Rover 4.4

I am tempted to buy a friend's range rover and need an idea of fair value - it is a 2002 (52)new shape with a petrol engine and HSE spec (no sat nav)- it is in silver and has been well used - about 60k mileage but with a few dents and scraps (it is a working vehicle in the country) all 4 wheels are kerbed but not too badly, some rust (but only surface) around the rear tail gate and whilst it has been owned from new the service history is patchy - about once every 2 years

No exact match against yours but from what you say I would be looking at going at least a couple of grand under those prices. Late last year early scruffy cars were going from between 10 and 12 grand! Things have firmed up since though.

I would say around £7,500- £8000. My mechanic has bought two in the last year.Both customers cars,and both clean cars. Both were Vogues. He gave £8500 for one. £9000 for the other.Both were 52 plates.They had tried to sell them for a while at average prices,with no joy.They are a huge expense as a second hand buy.

Bear in mind that service intervals on these is when the computer says so, so it won't be every 12k. If you drive like a wuss you'll have quite long periods between. Mines was last serviced Jan 08 and reckons it has another 5k miles to go!Any ideas

I was under the impression the 4.4 Vogue was a pretty solid choice for early RR's? Much more favourable than the TD6 that has considerbly more issues?If the early Vouges are problematic I would very much like to know about it, as am currently in search for one?!

They dont suffer that many problems.Its just when they do the repairs are huge.Compare the price of an alternator on the previous P38. £180. Compare that to the alternator on a L322. water cooled and sealed. £566. and labour intensive to fit. Air springs P38= £65ea. L322= £487ea. You can see where i'm coming from. They are lovely when new,and under warranty. Or if a company is picking up the bill.But a few years down the line when its out of warranty,and its yourself picking up the bill,then its a different ball game.
