You will find that when you advertise your car on this site, you will receive a massive responce from the Continent, because there our cars are selling at double the price that they do here.

There are many overseas dealers trying to buy our cars cheap and selling them on at +100%

DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!

I could have sold my car many times over on the continent

See the add below for a right hand drive 04 Elise 20,999.00 Euro which is about £20K on Google.fr, looks like it has just been imported.

This is very interesting to me as I will be selling my Elise S this summer - does anyone know why there's such a demand in Europe?...

Sorry, but I don't see anything wrong with this as long as the people selling here are getting a fair price.

If you resent that traders on the continent are making a profit on moving these cars on to local punters at a (much) higher price, you'll have to set up shop over there!

To me it just means that the people who are buying from these traders might be paying over the odds, but if they felt they were being properly fleeced they would buy directly from the UK.

I have had offer for my car from europe but none have been any higher than I would get from someone in the UK.

I think you will find it's anyone trying to buy them, I had a chap from France who told me he does not work but he comes to the UK every week looking at cars!

Yes because they know what they can get away with buying at in the UK, sellers here should put their prices UP.

Hmm IMO good luck to them. All there trying to do is make a living and if the seller here is happy with the price he recieved then i cant see any problem.

Yet if i was selling now, im not, i would start with a very high price(due to continent interest) and see how it goes.

If people over hear are willing to sell there Elise on the cheap, does it really matter who or where it ends up?

Exactly. People have been importing discount Porsches from Germany for years when the pound was strong and look at all the Japanese imports. Now the boots on the other foot we just have to live with it. Market forces will eventually push selling prices up here anyway so in my view everybody benefits. Not selling mine though!

Have to agree, I don't see what the problem is.

I didn't fancy paying full whack for any of the Japanese cars I had so I imported them myself. It was more hassle and took longer but I felt the savings justified the extra effort.

Conversely, other people preferred to pay a premium for the ease and speed of buying a car that was already here.

It's a trade off between cost and convenience. If you want to get top money for your car, go sell it on the continent. If you can't be bothered, why complain about people who can?

Thing is people probably aren't giving them away, it's the Pound to Euro rate that makes them a steal. A year a go £20k worth of Elise was €30k maybe more on the continent, and it probably still is because the used car market doesn't really take into account currency fluctuations.

No-one is "getting away" with anything, it's just the way things are at the moment. A few years ago people were buying cars in Holland because it was cheaper and I bet Tony wasn't "Outraged of Pistonheads" then wink

If any sellers are reading this, if you raise your price, they'll go elsewhere - simple as.

Exactly right Cuzza. I sold mine back in Jan but before i did, i was constantly hassled by people living abroad wanting me to almost give my Elise away. I stuck to my guns & sold it hear for an exellent price. My point was, if people want to sell them cheap for a quick sale, wheres the harm?

I know, and this kind of talk puts a smile on my face. I'll flog mine after the 24hrs has gone, probably make about 5K€, on the price I paid, even though at one point I lost about 2.5K€ as the pound crashed over Christmas. Then come back to UK and buy a cheap one of one of you blokes !!!

What a ridiculous post.

Why on earth would sellers in the UK "NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT" - You do realise thats how business works, you buy low and sell high.

If they do the legwork, take the risk of buying a donkey, transport it back to France and make a few euros in the process, then fair play to them. If it was that easy, they wouldnt have a market to sell the cars to in France, so there are obviously plenty of people willing to pay the premuim to someone else to import the cars for them.

Surely the only lesson to learn is that if you have a Lotus to sell, brush up on your French and book a ferry trip.....

Err, I did not post this thread to have a 'bun fight'I have already sold our 04 Elise for £14250 to a guy in Germany, who told me the value over in his country.

I was trying to help others that are YET to sell their own cars, I'm afraid yours is the ridiculous post jkelly, do you not like to help others?
