I've had one for a couple of months now, I use to have a 523 E39.
It's for me the perfect car for luxury and speed. It has a lot of both!
I looked at the E46 M3 but too basic inside and too much of a boy racer look/head turner and hard suspensin (I'm mid thirties so getting on a bit...) I like the `Q car` thing (it's not a sport) so it suits fine.
Average MPG for me - 28.5. Not bad considering I like to use the power now and again!
2 things that I don't like:
1 - doesn't have the sports seats option, so not too good lumbar support (have the sports suspension).
2 - this one can't be changed easily; steering lock to lock is quite a lot of turns so quick direction changes at roundabouts etc are a bit annoying.
Saying that it is a luxury sports saloon and not an M5...
Suspension is a bit hard on the 18" run flats but nothing too bad unless you're on teh crap UK backroads.
Overall great car, lots of torque, good mpg. And sounds great after 3500rpm when it really flies!
