Getting to arnage from BN

Morning,
We are camping at BN this year and would at some point like to get down to Arnage. We drove last year and managed to get very lost on the way back and so have decided to cycle or walk.
The only eay route I can see is..

Is there a more direct one? I cannot see footpaths on the French maps..

That's the way I've always done it, although I'm in a car these days & take in Mulsanne as well - getting back can be difficult with the obvious roads blocked + nightmare traffic, but none of that should bother you if you're walking.
The Arnage / Indianoplis viewing bank was really busy last year - difficult to see much at 6 am, so best to go during practice if you're around then, glowing brakes are great at Indy during the hours of darkness.

It is still possible to drive to the Arnage and Mulsanne viewing areas, but you must have an additional parking permit. You can no longer use your camping permit to get you in.
The permit does cover both the Arnage and Mulsanne car parks and can be ordered in advance.
There is also the shuttle buses that run from the near the main entrance to the circuit, which are free.

I've heard of this before but can't see anything on the lemans.org ticket office about these permits. Am I to assume that you can just buy them on the day from a pikey in a tabard stood at the entrance to the car park?Never experienced any of the traffic problems mentioned above by going in the middle of the night 
To me, Arnage & Mulsanne are at their best in the dark - watching the cars explode out of the darkness, glowing break discs then the noise as they go away from you perfectly captures what LM is all about 
Go around midnight and yes, it's busy, which is why I usually try and get to Arnage approx 3am - tiring but well worth it! Then onto Mulsanne while still dark, watch the sun come up and then drive back to campsite for a couple of hrs kip about 6am.
My best memory from last couple of LM's was standing at Arnage at 4am in 2008 when it started to drizzle. Watching the cars trying to brake and hold it on dry tyres was "interesting"....
Easy enough to find your way back up along the east of the Mulsanne following the directions/sign posts, just remember to take a map with you as back up and someone who can read it!

So purchasing them on the day/gate will depend on whether there are any permits left. We currently have a handful of the parking permits in stock @ £8 per permit.

I was in the same place at the same time and is one of my Le Mans moments too. The rain just started as I walked to the far end of the Arnage enclosure and, just as I was thinking everything was a little crappy LMP1 cars start spinning 5m from me (which was very considerate of them).I loved the sight of the 911s that evening too - everyone was creaping around the final Arnage right-hander and feathering the power in...everyone except the 911 that just shoved it down, sticking their arses to the tarmac and shooting off like a scared dog! God bless you weight transfer

The alternatives are to use the free shuttles buses from near the main entrance of the circuit, walk or cycle.
