Car failed to start ! - Pls read

Hi,
For the first time every my tuscan failed to start! The car would crank over but wouldn't start (thou it did nearly catch a couple of times). When turning over the car there was a smell of fuel from the rear cans!

Does this sound like the crank sensor ?? Or I have recently fitted a Eprom chip (2nd) to my car which has worked fine for the last two weeks ( 1st chip made the car very jerky and hestitated when accelerating)

Has anyone else had the same problem ??? I've searched the forum but all I find is battery problems!

P.S car has 24 litres of fuel in tank

It may just be flooded . Remove the fuel pump relay ( should be the brown one ) and spin it over again . It should start quite soon and run for a couple of seconds . Replace relay and you should then be OK .

I agree, sounds flooded; same thing happened to me when I was sorting my engine earth issues.

Had this problem with my 04 plate Tuscan. Engine was flooded. Needed the spark plugs removing and drying out before it would start.

I don't get any of these start issues now. Mostly down to the fact the Sagaris ECU and Chip have been installed. The engine doesn't need any throttle at start up and simply starts at the turn of the key.

Mine has been doing very similar.
It was down to not enough guts in the battery.
Car would turn over but just wouldnt fire up.
Sorted with a new battery.

As above and also check the fuel cut interia switch in the boot, might not be getting fuel, although that would just mean it turning over all the time.

So do you think the flooding was caused by the eprom chip or would the crank sensor cause this too??


I'm 99.9% sure that the battery is fine.

Is it worth resetting the adapter maps and throttle bodies using the TVR software ???

My problem was the crank sensor. but if you are smelling fuel then flooding is a real possibility.
I take no responsibility or liability for the following (the rac did it)
in the boot is your fuel cutoff valve.
Thump it with a spanner so it cuts off the fuel (pretends you had an accident)
Spin the engine for a good while to clear the plugs.
Reset the fuel cutoff by pressing the button.
Hope to god it starts

All,
Car has started since.. But I just worry that im going to get court out again!
If this was due to flooding what caused it ??? I never really give it any gas when starting.

1. I have recently fitted the decat eprom chip

2. Crank sensor may be dirty /faulty


What do you guys think ?

FIXED!!! . It turned out that the crank sensor needed to be cleaned..

20 minute later and all done!

Delboy, I was just going over a few old threads and saw this one of yours. How did you clean the crank sensor and where is it located please? Is it a fairly simple quick task or does it require a few bits to be dismantled (concerned over time not complexity!).

Hi S6PNJ,
Just used a rag! . It is locate behind the airbox

With the help of my brother ( I watched him do it)

1. remove air box (3 clips) + 1 sensor connector
2. Crank sensor is locate at the back of the engine, You will need a allen key to remove it (From the driver side).


If you get stuck give me a shout and I'll ask my bro for extra advice.
