Are you taking the pi$$?
Rust, Jesus what's wrong with you this is 2009 not 1979.
Fiat are probably the only manufacturer actually making cars that sell at the moment, so leave the old cliches alone.
Go and buy a Mini pal, you deserve one.
Oh, and it's STILO and ABARTH moron.

1st, just to clarify you are no pal of mine !, second I thought that this forum was to help and advise fellow minded cars enthusiasts. maybe I was being a bit nieve, regarding the rust problems, you have obviously had a lot of problems in the past with rust on your motors probably why it is a touchy subject for you.
With regard to buying a Fiat you have just made my mind up for me ! Cheers.

i think the problem was your (apparent) perception that fiat (and all italian cars for that matter) were unreliable rust heaps ! , they are not and they have come on leaps and bounds over the years , i have had no end of friends sucking on teeth and shaking heads saying "ooo alfa's would not have bought that, that will be trouble" and NONE of them have EVER owned one ! their opinions have been made up of hearsay and chinese whispers !With regard to buying a Fiat you have just made my mind up for me ! Cheers.
my alfa 155 is as reliable as any other car i have owned , it has a few rust spots but is not a rust heap
and it 'feels' special , and is brilliant to drivei think the thing to do is buy/borrow/aquire a fiat/alfa/lancia live with one THEN make an informed opinion on the the resulting experience

i would happily recommend a 155 , buy carefully (as with any car) and you will be suprised and rewarded you owe it to yourself to own at least ONE italian car in your lifetime

hope this helps , and enjoy whatever you buy
i had a jtd before getting the abarth. Have had no problems but some have had problems with the padle gear shift so go for manual box. Most owners order extras so get one with sky roof & 2 tone leather. MPG is 26 hard 32 max, best on motorway crusing at 70 can get 39mpg. Engine 2.4 5 cylinder sounds good. Not fast by some car standards but who can drive fast today. Drawback is its in top band for car tax but you only live once. hope this helps

Any Piston Headers had any experience of owning one of these, been looking at Mini Cooper's but noticed this in a garage looked good to be honest and seems to come with plenty of bells and whistles.
Just thinking Fiat = Breakdowns, Rust, Deep Pockets, lots of grief etc
If you are still interested after the other posts, my mate had one of these and had no problems. It was the Schuy edition..Went well, he did say the handling could be a bit better but springs can sort that..But all good. Just thinking Fiat = Breakdowns, Rust, Deep Pockets, lots of grief etc
I would give it a go, engine sounds sweet too..

It's weird how so many people still think of Italian cars as rust buckets with dodgy electrics because Japanese cars of the late 1970s were far worse for rust but look at how quickly their reputation recovered.
My 10 year old Fiat coupe has a few small rust spots but they're all caused by damage - mainly on the trailing edge of the wheelarches.
Conversely my 8 year old BMW has some rust mid-panel above the rear bumper, not caused by an unrepaired stone chip, but simply good old fashioned rust.
It's had more electrical gremlins as well.
I did 60k miles in a Stilo diesel and loved it.
They're not the most accomplished drivers cars but they do seem to have a good following and a decent name for reliability.
I don't remember there being any recalls for the Stilo which is not something you could ever say about the BMW MINI (Mk1 at least)

Mine was one of the first in the country and was registered in feb 2002 and has been used everyday to get to and from work. The car still has the original exhaust sparkplugs and brakepads.the timing belt was replaced last year and the pads will probably done this month when it goes in for it`s yearly service by Fiat.Fuel consumption is quite heavy because most of my driving is in town about 23mpg.the bodywork is in as new condition as you can see from the photo,i have been thinking about changing but as the car is worth so little and is in such good nick maybe i will hang on to it for a while.
