I don't think that there would be any gain for Mercedes to do this. Better to have a possible 6 cars in the top 6 rather than a 1-2 and the others outside the top 10.

Quite easily through mapping. But as I said above, I don't see that it would be a gain for mercedes. Especially with the problems that McLaren are having at the moment.

I was thinking that the mandated ECU would disallow this but of course they must be able to program their own maps.

Red Bull Renault faster than Renault, Williams Toyota a faster car than the Toyota, I think the answer is they are all the same unit between manufacturer and customer.

Potentially, we can have them ALL back if a team can do it on the new capped budget coming in 2010! i wonder what the street value of an old Honda turbo F! engine is, say an 1988 or so? Or, if it is actually run-what-you-brung, will people go out and buy up Carrera GTs for their V10s? Couldn't you put together a pretty good little ground effects car with a turbo AMG 6.3 in it and race it for £30M a year?

VW Toureg had a V10 diseasel. You could use the block from that.

A 1 litre limit does sound cool for turbo cars though. They really should have top base the engine on a road car block though. Imagine the homologation specials!

You can't upgrade 1 engine & not the others. Witness Torro Rosso's speed at time last year.

The reason they moved away from Turbo's and big V10's etc, was to try and slow the cars down because of safety concerns.

Well, with Safety on F1 cars higher than ever before (Kubica walking away from that crash in Montreal last year!!), do they really need to restrict the engines anymore?

Why not? The latest updates has to go to a driver/team.

It was only during mid-season onwards did STR make any impact.
