Hi guys.

Firstly i apologise if this is in the wrong forum.

Wondering if anyone can help me. I have finally gone HD and bought a 720p tv, so naturally hit the switch on the cable into the xbox to hdtv and set the display settings to 720p.

If i wanted to use an HDMi cable would this make the picture any better?

Also, if i keep the original xbox lead, its got an optical audio plug in the plug (xbox end), i've also got one into the back of my tv. If i get the necessary lead, what will i gain using the normal hdtv five wires? Better sound? I havn't got surround sound if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

HDMI will give you a bit better quality of picture yes. It will also carry the sound signal so you won't need to run any extra cables with that.

As for sticking with your original cable, as you've got no surround sound setup I doubt you'll notice any real improvement over the standard cables by switching to optical.

I recently got an Elite, so had the option of HDMI, plugged it in, didn't like it and went straight back to component as I preferred the quality to HDMI.

HDMI just didn't seem as crisp as component ?? A few friends have also done/said the same thing.

Just try them both and stick with what you are happy with, it is after all a personal preference and probably, in some way, dependant on the TV you have.

Optical will provide a much better quality of sound, but if you have no surround sound, I can't imagine it will make much difference at all through the TV.
