LE MANS NEWBIE

After years of bad luck, I'm finally free for the lemans weekend this year.
Getting there will be no problem, I live in Amiens which is a few hours north of Le Mans (25 minutes from the A16 to A28 crossover)
I'm planning on going with 2 other people, in 1 car leaving thursday afternoon. The tickets are taken care of, so is travel. The only thing I'm not sure about is where to stay and how to book.
The main priority here is CHEAP. So any advice as to a decent place to set up camp will be greatly appreciated.

It really depend on what you want.
Beausejour campsite is still available but all you get is a piece of grass (if your lucky).
Team langoustine have a dedicated site at Tertre Rouge(inside the circuit) with track access, 8ft walled site, security, marquee, private loos and showers, TV, DVD, Music and draught beer.

It's too late to book direct with the ACO, the best bet is ebay for a camping pitch but you will pay more than face value. Cheapest seems to be Beausejour or camping adjacent.

It's not too late to by direct from the ACO. You can still get Dairon from their website and you could buy in Euros!
We're going with Speed Chills http://www.speedchills.com/lm24_index.htm and they usually have tickets available - we've bought tickets from them last minute before at sensible prices...

I spent a lot of time in Amiens about 20 years much time spent at "le Jockey".
If you travel by train it possible "free camp" in some areas if you dont take up much space. I did that for 3 years in Houx where not all space was allocated.
If you have to take a car then unless you want to pay a lot via ebay or an agency then it has to be beasejour or one of its offspring, or pay for parking and take a bivi bag.

I love that atmosphere at arnage and mulsanne.
3am the air has got cold, clear night sky, the smell of oil, tyres, beer, campfires and sausages.
And people just sat quietly or sleeping all around, totally trusting those around them, that nothing would happen like stuff getting nicked. There is this weird hushed quiet (although not really quiet!). People just chilling, almost trance like watching the cars going through the night.
I've done it a few times now. It isn't really proper sleep, with the cars belting past, but that feeling of sticking it out trackside and when you wake up with the cars still going a few feet in front of you. Magic.
Although you feel pretty damn knackered on the sunday. This is only something to do though when it has been a hot sunny weekend.
Last year I also went along the pit straight banking at 3am-5am. Again really quiet in terms of people. It was fasinating also watching the blokes from radio le mans walking up and down the pit lane and listening to them, whilst also wondering up and down following them as they went. The pit action when it is dark is also great to watch.
God I want to get back there..... Roll on June!
