I've got to fly out to Boston in a few weeks to do some work at MIT. I've never been before (to anywhere in the US in fact!). Can anyone recommend reasonably priced accommodation there that's not a total st hole? I'm not having much luck browsing around online.

Can't be specific, but I've generally found Best Western motels to be decent. Motel 6 are OK too. Can't you ask someone who works there? You can always move after a night or two, there's no shortage of hotels.

Mate swears by the Doubletree but I haven't been there (the Soldiers Field Rd would probably be the best bet for MIT)

Boston is one of my favorite cities! MIT is just across the bridge from the center of Boston which is a wonderful location, albeit pricey (do a tour or just sight see around Boston Commons if you're able to). If you need to be in the city by the school, it will prob cost you a bit extra, but worth it. Go to Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, etc and try boutique-type hotels - they usually are less expensive than chains and wonderfully located being that they're old city buildings that have been around for ages. Boston is relatively easy to get around and cabs are a-plenty.

I know this isn't much help but thought I'd try! smile

Looks very nice but it's £230 a night...

I’m hoping to make time for a good wander around. I’ll be spending a month or so there in the near future which I’m looking forward too.

At the moment I’m thinking I might book a hotel a bit further out and hire a car. There really don’t seem to be any low priced options in the city (which is pretty much what I expected!).

Ouch, that is dear.

Exchange rate is going to burn you these days...reason I haven't booked my trip out there this summer yet frown

See if MIT will give you somewhere to park because parking will be difficult in the city. There is an underground train system in Boston but I've only been on it to get from Logan Airport to Boston Commons so not too sure of where all it branches out. I've stayed around Fenway Park as well and that was way cheaper than the center of town. Also try a residence inn type of place if you're going to be there for a month..

Good luck!

Have a look at the MidTown Hotel. It's nice and central, decent quality (although not up to Marriot etc standards). I think I paid about £50 per night there a few years ago although with the current exchange rates who knows what it's be now.

$120 a night(~75 quid these days). That's not bad at all. Thanks!

The T. 1000x better than London's poor excuse.

MIT is on the red line.

You're welcome. The supermarket along the road, opposite the Marriot do is handy for sandwiches etc. I was working out there last summer for a week and was in there every lunchtime
