im sure this has been done to death but im thinking of getting a cerb but have a couple of queries.im going to stick with the v8 lump but wondered how accurate the bhp figures are for these? ive owned a couple of tiv's befors so im well aware of the optimistic claims made on the rv8's but how does the ajp fair? also ive heard the 4.5 is quite responsive to remaps and induction mods but what about the 4.2?

Hi, no doubt all the info you need will follow but as far as I'm aware, the 4.2 is about right as stated 360bhp. The 4.5 right out the box has similar figures but with a remap and a few bits and bobs can make 400+
I have a 4.2 and that is plenty fast enough for me.

You could ring Surrey Rolling Road (SRR) and ask them.

They are generally accepted to have had so many different cars on their rollers that they can give a good view on what does what.

so the 4.2 figures are pretty much spot on and the 4.5 is is a bit inflated, is that right? by the way im not trying to start any disputes between the two i know these things can get a bit heated round here but wondering if its worth paying the extra for a 4.5?

From what i have read over the past few years on here the 4.5 is supposed to be 420 out the box, but in reality only makes 380 ish, but with a linked de-cat, short induction and a chip (will set you back about £1500 ish for all 3) you should see 400+ easy.

The 4.2 is supposed to be 360, and generally is not far off it, but there isn't as much tuning potential in the engine, best bet is to test drive a 4.2 and a sorted 4.5 (with all the above done) and see what you prefer.

Either way its one of the most attention grabbing cars going, and a dream to drive (although change 'dream' for 'fun when its damp!)

Both the 4.2 & 4.5 as standard and in fine fettle will be around 360bhp +/- 10bhp.

A 4.5 that has had the TrackCar magic and sports pipes will do approx 411.07bhp.

That is approx btw biglaugh

400bhp + to be expected
