In my opinion, yes.
The bi-monthly magazine is excellent - very professionally produced and lots of interesting articles. It's not just pics of blokes with beards stood in fields. They have a quiet (but developing) forum which is a help for tech answers as well as Alfa related news and banter, but I appreciate you can get those from AO or 155.org too. They have an insurance scheme which has certainly saved me more than the yearly subs and obviously they organise some pretty impressive meets nationwide. The last few years they have also run an excellent Alfa only trackday too. Well worth £35.

I've been a member, twice, for a year each time. I didn't get much out of it, although I guess I didn't put a lot in either. It sounds like the magazine is a lot better now than it was back then (it was pretty poor). First time I was a member the approved insurer wouldn't insure me because they hadn't heard of my car, second time they would insure it but were massively expensive.
The other complication for me is that it seems I would have to pay to join AROC and then pay again to join the Scottish section, which just seems fundamentally wrong.

Jamie, I'm not sure but I think they might have sorted the Scottish rip-off.

The mag won an award last year (or maybe year before) at the NEC classic car show. It's an A4 colour job, about 64 pages. Not sure if you were still on the old A5 "booklet". Front cover on show here:

It was the A5 booklet (quarterly? with a quarterly newsletter too, so you got something bi-monthly) when I was a member - roughly 1995 and 2000, give or take. It's good news if they've sorted out the double-payment thing, though.

Jamie, just double checked. You would only get charged one fee for joining the AROC. Area sections "may ask" for small subs for regional purposes e.g. if they produce their own news letter and so on but these appear to be small (if anything) and done on a goodwill/voluntary basis.
If you do end up with a GTAm flying machine the 105 Forum is certainly invaluable! I have asked many a dimwitted "where does this bit go" question on there!

I have been an AROC member for many years and have enjoyed every aspect. The Club has come on leaps and bounds since the early days and now has over 29 regional sections and a register for every single Alfa model, from pre-War cars right through to the MiTo!
Two major events are organised during the year - Spring and National Alfa Day attracting many hundred's of cars. Sections run their own regional events which include car displays, runs, track and circuit days.
The Club magazine is a Classic & Sportscar Magazine award-winning bi-monthly publication and is supported with a new on-line bi-monthly newsletter. An annually updated Directory of Alfa Services is provided free of charge to members and the Club now has an a recently revised and dramatically improved website with forums, daily updated classifieds, links and pages of useful Alfa info.
Chris Knott provide AROC with a tailored Insurance scheme, not only for cars but houses too! There is a new Club Shop selling a variety of clothing, memorabilia and sundries.
The AROC is currently working in partnership with several European Alfa Clubs to coordinate the Centenary of Alfa Romeo in Milan next year.
Have a look at the website and see what AROC membership can offer you - www.aroc-uk.com or come to Spring Alfa Day - The Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden on 3rd May. This could well be the largest gathering of Alfisti in 2009!

Having bought my first car last June after driving various 'family' cars for 6 years, I picked up a lovely low miles Alfa 146 very cheap. I love it to bits, now with a few discreet mods to make it go a bit better! I joined AROC and have been very impressed with their organisation and professionalism. However, there never seems to be any news from the 145/146 register, not a single bit in 8 months! I know they are not the best Alfa ever, but were an important model at the time and stil a great little car. If anyone else has this gripe - join my crusade!
